LCD, LED or Plasma?

Crisper and clearer maybe, but the blacks still aren't as deep, neither do they handle movement the same.

As a minor note, OLED is surely the way forward, but LED "backlit" is a nice stopgap until that day comes.

That's like saying a Ford Mondeo is a stop gap to a Ferrari if you already own a Fiesta. All the LED backlights have done is make the screen illumination uniform and more energy efficient, they haven't actually improved the contrast ratio by a great margin.

Yes of course, we spend all our days calibrating tvs in multiple stores as we clearly have no lives :rolleyes:

We advise people on here..... Get that ? ADVISE depending on their requirements and are trying to help them choose the best set, especially as a lot of people don't have a clue and ask for our advise. There are far too many people on here recommending the set they purchased and have not compared it to anything else. It's like recommending someone buy a certain car religously even though they haven't driven any of the competition. You are slightly delusional if you think we are trying to force them into buying what we want.

Enjoy your samsung set. You really don't seem to care that you have splashed out on an expensive set when there is better out there for less :p As you have said:

Yes, crisper and clearer HD, in other words jumping out of the screen fan freakin' amazing! :p

Listen, do you enjoy movies at all? Perhaps you nitpick and gripe about every area in a movie that isn't truly black (shame). For me the blacks on an LED TV far exceed expectation (pretty plasma-like blacks to me), coupled with the crisp and clear HD feed really do make the experience tantalisingly mouth-watering to behold.

As for handling movement, to say there is a difference at all to even the trained eye is silly. My screen plays live HD prem games superbly and I frag the hell outta every FPS I own with crystal clear movement. Go splutter your SD plasma fanboyism facts to someone else, cuz they really mean jack to me given i'm having the greatest time right now with my LED "backlit." Hooray! :D

Oh I am already!!! (notice the need to emphasise the sheer amazingness there) On the contrary, I don't care because the LED TV I have freakin' loves me feeding it HD content, to which the thing can't get enough of. Yum, yum.

I'm a film lover but I'm also an AV geek, you can be both, but being a film lover having a backlight that is always adjusting is slightly off putting and not at all helpful if you want to be immersed in a film.

It's not just about a trained eye, some people just detect motion better. For instance some people got on fine with CRT monitors running at 60Hz, but I got a headache.

You are happy, brilliant, I am happy for you. You are failing to realise what me and others are trying to make clear, which is that people don't need to spend X amount on the latest "ZOMGZ LED SCREENZ" when they can spend less and get an arguably better picture. ;)

You are happy with your purchase, that is all that matters.

You are using a CRT monitor runnin 60Hz as your example. Todays tech,again, negligible. Headaches, pfft. Negligible, negligible, oh what was that, negligible! :rolleyes:

Glad you feel that way, only I don't have to realise, I live in Hong Kong, my 46" beauty was just under a thousand quid. I'm laughing all the way to the bank. :)

Just leveling the playing field in here, now we can't have stray cattle making decisions based purely on an onslaught of plasma pigs. Sure you love your SD feed, but there are greener (red and blue) pastures out there! :p

Except on one side we have a group of people who know what they are talking about, post in an objective manner on the subject and try help people whilst on the other we have someone who seems to be arguing for the sake of it and completely unable to approach things in an objective manner.

Ultimately, you're just posting 'omfg omfg i love my new LCD TV it's better than plasma lol', I mean, it's bordering on trolling. In fact, I suspect some people would say it's beyond bordering.
 
My two mates came around my house the other after going into town the other day raving about the Samsung LED TV they had saw in Comet.

They said the Blu Ray stuff looked even better than my Kuro (They appreciate that the 5090 is a great TV). The reason they said it looked better was because it was sharper.

I then flicked a few settings (DRE etc) over and got the exact same sharpness they were on about. However after watching it for a while they started to realise it was too sharp, everything was in Focus and the element of realism had been lost.

We then put it back to the normal settings, and whilst we all agreed it wasn't as sharp it certainly looked more realistic.

It seems some people think TV pictures look better when they look more computer like (ie everything Razor sharp). Bit odd really as computer games are trying to go the other way and make things look more realistic.
