LCD, LED or Plasma?

The new LED LCDs are not noticeably worse on blacks or movement than plasmas, to me anyway.

They are however noticeably sharper, clearer, more colourful, more realistic, and more pleasing to the eye.

Some people will never back down from preferring plasma technology until OLED comes into play, no matter what LCD technology is introduced. I wonder if these people worship Monarch08 from AVforums to be frank. Or maybe he's someone from Ocuk;).

they are not more realistic. end of story tbh and untill youve sat there and compared apples to apples, we arent going to listen. That might sound harsh but there you go - some of us just know better :)

*blanket statement alert*. There you go again Robbie, none of us are technology loyalists, i wish you'd stop with that rubbish. Again, read my previous posts Robbie. I've been sayign for a while that the xbr8 is SERIOUSLY good...kuro-threateningly good. I, -Ad-, or anybody else posting in this thread are not just sticking up for plasma because we bought it - we bought in *because* its that good, and still is. And until the high end led backlit sets improve and come down (substantially) in price, they arent going to be in the running.

I'm the first to admit the xbr8 is better than my 50pz80, i have no problem with that. But forget that eh? some of us just wont listen to reason will we? ;)

I can understand the sharper and clearer, however realistic? Are you sure?

Out of interest have you seen a Plasma in a lounge rather than a shop?

I have viewed a plasma under darkish lounge conditions in a store. JL in Solihull have a side viewing room, and I sat in this with the lights turned down.

Regarding the lights, I watch a reasonable amount of football on Sunday afternoon with the sun flooding through my living room, so under these conditions I'm not exclusively concerned about how my plasma performs in the pitch black.

The LEDs look better to me. If I could justify the expense, I would buy one over a £1500 plasma, especially considering the Pioneers are now very difficult to get hold of.

Have you seen an high-end ISFd set in a proper demo room?

I can safely guess that is a no, so how on earth can you have a baseline on how what an accurate picture even looks like, and what to look for in the aspects of over PQ from a set.

It's all well and good having an opinion, but you have not compared sets side by side with known and good quality sources and seen them in a true demo environment. There are soo many things some people just don't seem to grasp and just palm off our questions and points as fanboism.

If I went into Motors and harped on about how great a mk6 golf gti is being that I have only driven one briefly and bought it on a whim and dismissed everyone elses opinions even though they have far more driving experience, experience with owning cars over years, and have actually driven models out there................ Well, I would be laughed out of the section and treated as a complete muppet. Same principle applies here ;)

You wouldn't, because it's an excellent car :p.

And regarding an accurate picture, I compare them to my eyes and I'd call that fairly accurate.

I was in Tottenham Court Road today and saw a Samsung LED backlit LCD, TV, running an HD feed. I don't know which model it was, but I must say that it was one of the best LCD screens that I've seen (for HD). I wonder how well it performs with SD?

Who? I take it this person only recommends Plasma. :p

Andy

Yeah, as i'm sure you have relevant experience in fully testing/calibrating a backlit LED TV in all its glory (suitable environment, lighting, viewing distance, etc). That goes for everyone here recommending plasma, please enlighten me about your experience in testing an LED TV to the point where you can make statements opposing it.

Cheers. :)

Well I've just gone for a new 50" 1080P 100Hz Samsung plasma. Would have been rude not to for £520.

Can't really argue with a brand new full hd plasma for £520, nice one.

Cheers, chuffed tbh. Was up at 599 but got a 10% voucher and 4% quidco. Haven't got it yet, but people who have are saying it's got a great picture with good blacks.

A far cry from when I used to gaze in the high street shops at the early 43" Pioneers that were up at 10K!

This thread is making me chuckle.

No! Signing your name at the end of every post when clearly your name is on the left hand side of YOUR post - makes me chuckle!

Doesn't the B8000's have a lot of motion problems at the moment with the lastest firmware?

-AD- Who is it you work for?

Andy

I actually thought you had forgotten to finish your post at first thought.. Directing a question to someone called 'Andy' then second thought was... Hmm he's answering his own question which he already knew the answer.. WTF!

I'm not a fan of LCD TVs, but I must say thats a good price, if only for the sheer size of the screen on offer.

Nor me either. They don't look good with SD, three years on from when I bought my first plasma. That's why I've bought another plasma (:)) Though I haven't seen the latest LED LCD TV's.

AAAah.
My mistake.
Well, then, for a 50" plasma, thats even more impressive.

I bought my 42" Pansonic 720p in January 09 for £450 and I thought that was a fantastic bargain.

Well the same TV is up at 899.99 at a well known high street electrical store, so more than happy!
