LCD vs Plasma

The SD on the Sony holds its own against the panny! Have you actually seen a correctly setup and calibrated 40W4500
And when it comes to HiDef material the Sony creams the panny!!

The pannys are good solid cheap TV's but NOTHING special like the Kuro's & 40W4500

Yes I have in a number of stores. I don't comment on sets that I haven't played with and viewed.

How much is the W4500 compared to a px80 ? A good amount more, and stil has its faults as an LCD, especially the vieiwng angle problems. But I'm not sure if sony have sorted the backlight problems that are on the V4000 and W4000. Not all sets have them, but I have seen sets with them and it ain't pretty. Viewing from varying angles alters the backlight bleed also, but obviously only on effected sets. I would rather not gamble on something like this when spending soo much money on a tv.

The PX80 isn't the holy grail, but for the price it is awesome value and the only other things around this price are the samsungs and LGs which arn't a patch on it. If you spend more then get a PZ over the sony.

Best LCD would be either the Z4500 or X even if you're stuck in the Sony camp the W isn't their flagship.

This ^

But although the X is better, it certainly isn't worth its stupid price premium. It and the latest LED backlit philips are stupidly expensive and more than a Kuro 5090 and around the price of kuro KRP, and the Kuros **** all over them. But this is me going off topic :p

What
They are regarded by pretty much everyone in the field as the best LCD TV money can buy!!

If your gonna buy a TV then at least get the best in said technology!

LCD = Sony W4500
Plasma = Pioneer Kuro

Panasonics don't even come into the equation as they are nothing special which is reflected in their very cheap price tbh!!

oh dear lol.

The W4500 seems to have the clouding still, even more so on 46 and 52" but I think these are at the higher backlight settings. People are reporting being about to shift the front panel around in the bezel by around 1mm with they finger. Z seems to have a better panel though.

Z is good though, the max on the 200hz gets a full 1080 motion res.

Sorry again for hijacking, this is mainly aimed at -Ad- and James.miller. Got an offer on my Samsung 40" M86 of £375. With the hope that RS still honor the price of £539.99 for the PX80 with 5 year Panny warranty, do you think that's a good offer? I'll need to pay £164.99 then for the PX80, which of course sounds good :D but is it? Just looking for a final bit of closure (if you hadn't already guessed! :))

Again sorry for the thread hijack! Just don't think I should make more threads than necessary! ;)

Nymins, what is the TV for?

My brother has a 40M87 Samsung, I have a 40A656

My parents have a px70 and mate has a px80.

I have seen lots of pictures of both, Xbox, PC, HD-DVDs, Blu-Rays etc.

Currently I use about 75% SD, 20% HD and 5% (rarely) games.

Sources are Sky+ and a PS3 for blus and the very odd game.

No worries.I think it is a good offer, but only if you are prepared to keep the tv for a while and not upgrade loads.

But I honestly can't remember when I saw that samsung, and I think simon could give you a better roundup.

Just got off the phone with a mate who is about to pull the trigger on a PX80. Told him to order on xmas day when there was stock at £450, but everywhere online is out atm, so getting one froma store with stock seems to be the only way to get one. I still think it is an excellent tv for the price, and the PZ is also very very nice if you can find a good deal.

Good luck :D

We have two 64inch samsung plasma's here at work, They have been in place for around 5 months (maybe a bit longer) and they have terrible screen burn alrdy.

I have turned the contrast down / brightness etc but one of them stays on news 24 all day and the other has a set of camera 's on them all day.

Screen Burn has ruined them :( The left one we use for TV on night shifts (inbuilt freeview) but the burn isn't very noticable when your watching TV its only on bright scene's really. With it being on BBC news 24 all day the bar at the bottom is seen mostly all day :(

I don't think I would personally upgrade after the px80 anytime soon. The PQ should be the same, if not better than my sammy on blu-ray and will definitely be better on SD, cause anything would be atm!

SkyHD will come along eventually, but again it's not even 1080p, so that's covered. Just really trying to convince myself that it will be worth it. The SD picture I'm watching as I type this looks ok, but I guess that's cause I'm use to it? So really the PX80 will be like going back to my CRT? In a good way I mean, like watching SD on a CRT :D

The Sammy 686 has made quite a big impression on many new owners with some fantasic big thumbs up for this sammy model. Sales for the 686 have started to shoot through the roof with various stores running out of stock especially the 40" which can be had for as low as £700 with 5-year warranty. From what I have read its a fantastic alternative to the panny PZ if you don't want a plasma.

** Nymins,
Have you been into the RS store in Belfast and if so, are the prices similar to the .ie site and more expensive compared to the english .co.uk site?

The Panasonics are lovely screens, certainly better than the Sonys from what I have seen (and I work in a telly shop, so I've seen a fair amount of them).

If you're gonna get a 32" for SD TV though your best bet is the LG 32PG60**, the picture on it is considerably better than the top end 32" models from Sony, Pansonic etc. when running SD and not bad with HD.

Haven't been into myself. I have talked to them and they do price match their .com site. Dunno why they don't change the .ie site to match the .com one!
