Le Mans 24 hour race - 2015

Will carry on posting for the benefit of those catching up later :)

SC following the #96 Aston crash hurt the second-placed #9 Audi which was obviously in just the wrong place. Went from about 2:20 behind the lead #19 Porsche to being behind the same safety car so a full lap down with the third-placed #17 Porsche about 5s behind.

Lead #19 Porsche had to pit under the SC for fuel and rear bodywork work and has thus dropped back to behind the next SC, giving the #9 back the time it lost.

Webber in the #17 Porsche takes second from the #9 Audi

EDIT: And disappears into the distance - does the #9 have a problem?

EDIT2: Gap stabilised around 3s - looks like Webber may be lighter on fuel and has to pit soon.

Yeah would be nice for Porsche to win it but I'd like something to happen to close it up a little more and give us a ding-dong battle :)

#19 Porsche leading the #9 Audi by about 2/3rds of a lap - to give some idea, when the Porsche's at Arnage, the Audi is just passing the pit entry.

Oh god... I'm starting for root for the Porsche's. This is not right!

Not Aston Martin's year is it? :(
Dempsey-Proton Porsche seems to have had a fairly good run through the night, still 4th in class and only 10s behind 3rd. They're going to be so gutted if they don't get on the podium.

I'm really enjoying this years race, even the Eurosport HD coverage seems ok (to me) and not quite as annoying as last years.

As I've not been watching the WEC much over the last few years, I'm a bit 'lost' to some of the rules and how Le Mans fits in to the WEC championship, can someone enlighten me?!

Or, is there a good site I can read to help? I fancy watching the rest of the WEC this year, and will certainly be enjoying the cars at Goodwood FOS this year :)

The WEC is an 8 round championship of 7x 6 hour races at various tracks, and the Le Mans 24 Hours. The 24 Hours comes with double points for the WEC due to its length.

Then, as its such an epic race and has capacity for a bigger field, the ACO invite teams from the ELMS and the TUSC (excluding Daytona Prototypes) based on their performance and results.

Only WEC teams score WEC points. This causes a bit of controversy. Last year only 1 P2 car that competed at Le Man's was a WEC car. They came something like 14th in class yet still earnt the full double points for the 'win' at Le Mans, and then went on to won the championship.

If you want to follow sports car racing you have lots to watch theres ELMS, TUSC, I think there's an Asia series now, and then for GT theres a plethora of top quality GT series across the globe. The P1 Hybrids only compete in WEC however as that's the only series with the P1 class.
