*** League of Legends ***

So i just played a draft pick game tonight, and what a game it was !

My team fed akali 5/0/0 in first 15mins, then we started making a come back only for akali to just keep raping my team, we got 4 of them down and i made everyone do baron, half way through ezreal comes by to try and steal so 3 people chase him leaving me and orianna to finish off baron it took us so long the rest of their team spawned and come stole and aced us :(

anyway after much perseverance and carrying by me, we managed to win after scoring a good ace and taking down the middle inhibitor turret and going straight through to nexus !

Oh our nasus was AFK for champion pick thats why he is nasus - what a plank !

So I've recently become really attached to the Support meta, after my previous post thinking Tristana was good to play at top lol. It started off with me randomly picking Soraka mostly as a joke whilst playing with friends, then I got told that Taric is currently the most popular support and most popular champion overall atm, so I decided to buy him; and have since fell in love. In give or take 15 games I've only lost 2 whilst playing as Taric. I'm level 12 going on 13, so I have a pretty good grasp of the game so far, but I'm looking for some advice from some of you pro support players regarding items, and generally how to play support.
To start the game, I'm generally going bot ofc with the ADC of the team. I tend to play pretty passively unless my partner is aggressive in which case I move in for CCs for the ADC to poke/kill, but recently I've ran into problems where the lane is literally stalemate and nobody moves in for the attack. Pretty simple question - what do I do here? Do I ask for a gank from mid? Wait until they attack?
I also would like to know where to place wards etc. I'm currently at the start of the game placing one at the brush right next to the bottom lane - is this the best place to put it? I then save the others for later when a tower gets taken out etc etc (Also warding Baron late game and generally in places where we can potentially get ganked from)
As regarding to the build, what are the situational items in a game when facing certain champs? My build currently goes like this:
- Early game Rejuv bead, wards, pot
- End early game Philo stone, BoS, Emblem of Valor, Sightstone, Aegis
- End of mid Merc Treads, Shurelyas Reverie, Ruby SS, Kindlegem for extra CDR
- Final 6 Merc, Bulwark, Crucible, Reverie, Ruby SS, IS Locket, Homeguard enhancement
I haven't actually ever managed to complete the entire build before, but as I said, which items would be situational in correlation to what champions I'm facing.

Also, any tips from people playing supports appreciated, I hope to get better at the role and play it in ranked when I get there, so any heads up are coolio.

I'm also trying out some other support champs:
- Leona - I like her, lots of CC but her lack of heals is a bit meh. Overall she's pretty good if you have a good ADC who know how to manage damage input
- Soraka - I also like her surprisingly, but she really lacks damage. Her ulti is amazing for team fights when everybody is taking damage, but she really lacks the utility and burst potential like Taric. She also doesn't have any CC, only a silence which makes chasing and bursting down champions meh.
- Kayle - I also like her, but from looking at websites she has an average 60% ban rate in ranked games, so I feel like it's pretty pointless getting good with her if I'm never actually going to be able to play her later.
- Sona - Sona is good with smart heals and her ulti is incredible, I've only played one game with her though. She didn't really wow me like Taric did.
I'm going to buy some more champs, so any support meta champion suggestions are appreciated (I can buy anyone).

Well in terms of items the first 10 mins of the game as support are pretty basic. Aim to get the philo asap for the better gold income for yourself and then either aegis or sightstone first dependant on what lane your against ( for example if your against a poke lane like caitlyn + lulu chances are you will be pushed to your tower so much you wont need the wards so aegis first for better defence + buy 1 or two wards if they play passive). After the aegis you want to look at two things.

1. Who is fed on the enemy team? If there is one champ on the opposing team who is literally hard carrying then try to get a support item to best counteract that champ.
2. Your own team composition. What support items are going to benefit you as a team the most. Example you are against a pokey team which as a team you are struggling to close the distance before they have taken a good chunk of your hp away. Shurelaies reverie ( sorry i really dont think thats how you spell it :P ) will help your team close that distance with a mega team speed boost and a nice cdr for yourself to boot.

In terms of what other support to try you have a lot of passive supports ( like soraka ) and hard engage supports ( like leona ). How about a support champion like lulu? She brings movement speed buffs,a great slow, shields and a pretty awesome poke damage that early game can sometimes be just as devastating as your adc. Not to mention her ult which can change a fight so easily. Blitzcrank is also awesome but he gets banned a lot. :(

Here is a rather in depth support guide from a very good pro level support. It's rather lengthy however it is full of good info.

If you just want to learn more about bot lane warding go ahead and just skip to the warding section. :)

I spend a lot of time watching the LCS games at www.lolesports.com which is the pro's 5 v 5 tournament games, u can see where they put wards, what items everyone buys and how they go about the ADC / Support thing.

I've picked up so much info from these games, warding positions, lane control, Baron & Dragon Control, shame they can't teach me last hitting though :/

I have never played this game before but I want to get in to it. Is there a steep learning curve?

Cheers

pretty steep yes , you won't be good until you know all the champions moves which obviously takes a lot of time to learn.

bot matchs are the fastest exp but they will teach you bad habits

I'm still loving Kha Jungle.

Although my Ez ADC is getting better. Might duo ranked with my mate who is a cracking sona support.

Thanks guys. I'll look into some more guides.
Edit: Oh, I also have another question for you guys. I'm really wanting to play with unlocked camera, but I really can't seem to get used to it, it just confuses me sometimes. I know that it's easier for moving about and checking other lanes but when I'm trying to run away from someone or something I always get caught up and don't know the best way to move the screen to where I am running. Do most people just press Space to get their camera back onto their player?

I actually don't use space at all. I most often forget/ it's irrelevant because I can keep good track just using the unlocked window. I think the method used by most people for movement is kind of a 'bounce' in the diagonals of the direction you're headed.

By this I mean that if I am mid lane on purple team and running towards my turret/base I'm most likely bouncing my mouse off the top and right hand side of my screen equally whilst clicking to move. If you're used to playing top-down strategy games you have a massive advantage here. And likewise if I were on the blue team, I would be bouncing the bottom and left hand side of my screen.

If you are losing yourself in teamfights and so forth, of course use your space bar... but personally I find that disorients me more as it is putting me off of my skillshot pathing/predictions and keeping track of the enemy.

The more you play the more you realise that there is hardly any down-time in League and you will be clicking and moving your mouse the entire time you're playing.

The unlocked screen is something you'll probably grasp after a few games played with it unlocked, and I highly recommend you do so, as to ensure you don't maintain horrible habits a lot later on (My friend still plays locked after 200+ games at 30 and eats every skillshot thrown at him because he can't see enough distance behind himself when running..)

I was thinking about Lulu and Thresh. I have RP to buy them both so I'll think about it.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to start playing with it properly so I can try to get used to it. I know it's very rewarding if you know how to do it.

Also don't forget to give your AP carry blue buff when possible, obviously don't give it away if your gonna lose all your mana in a couple of combos.

Try to give your ADC the red buff also.

this is such poor form sometimes.

People don't realise how important it is for most junglers to hit 6 at a similar time to top and mid. but if you don't let them have second blue buff they flame and grief you so much. even as an under levelled jungle due to ganks/stealing or playings Vs double jungle it is still expected to hand over yoru blue buff.

That said Jungle is my prefferred position at the moment. Fiora or Cho gath being my favourites. but also enjoy nautilus and malphite. And the occasional troll Darius. jungle All though that is a kill stealing role :o Darius isn't very good at sharing kills lol

I main jungle, and I find myself increasingly making little effort to make sure my mid gets blue. In general if my mid is winning I will usually give it up, however if my mid is even or losing, or being out-roamed I will just take it.

I realise this makes some of you mid players mad, however it's so frustrating the amount of times I see mids lose a fresh blue buff which would be much better spent on me. I'm a gank heavy jungler and blue can really help me snowball some lanes.

I'm silver III atm and have been making steady progress lately.
