Learning to fly

Thanks guys! I'm still trying to work out which flying club is best for me. Looks like I might end up doing most of my flying at Bodmin in Cornwall.
 
Congratulations Fella, good to see someone as young as your self going for it and achieving. I've a lot of respect for you, going over to the states and doing what you've done. Have a good life and continue going the way you've started.

Enjoy the freedom, you've earnt it.
 
Good stuff, embarked on mine few years back, didn't have time, got a shelf full of expensive books about about 15 hours time. Must get back into this, really need to find the time.

Something I'd like to do if ever I can save up enough. Wish I had carried on with my subsidised lessons as a teenager now :( Ah hindsight....
 
Congratulations! After reading the first few posts I was going to ask if you had considered doing the NPPL which would be a fair bit cheaper than the price you mentioned but I was a bit late with that suggestion.

Well done! I did ~20 hours when I was at uni but I just can't afford £160/hr to do anymore. Unless the price drops much I can't see myself doing it unless of course I do the same as you and go stateside.

I always wanted to fly for a job or else ATCO but have ended up doing neither. IT is good money but every time I drive past an airport I think I should have tried either of the aviation options. Eyesight was always a problem so I probably wouldn't have made it through anyway. And I also couldn't have got the 80k needed for Oxford or the like.

I know a guy who is due to graduate from Oxford in the next month or so and he says aside from Ryanair there is absolutely nothing on the jobs front in the UK.

I had my 2nd lesson today, flying out of Humberside Airport in a Cessna 150. It was a bit scary, wind was upto about 30knots and their was a bit of turbulance. I was learning how to recover from going into a spiral dive by using ailerons and rudder, and how to trim the aircraft for level flight.

A Flybe Airbus diverted to Humberside airport due to an ill passenger, so we had to circle around Brigg for 15mins, whilst the air ambulance landed and took the passenger off to hospital. The delay cost me extra money in plane rental as well as it took me over the hour. Flying is amazing but it can empty your wallet very quickly, today was a 1hr 10 min flight and landing fee came to £145.50.
 
What is the wind limits for a 150? I'm surprised an instructor took you up in that!

That is pretty steep alright - you really need to want to do it for that money!

We took off at about 10.30am and the wind wasn't too bad, by the time we landed there was a strong wind warning on the TAF!

I'm just back from work, it was certainly sporty up there this evening! Weather coming into Gatwick was just miserable, driving rain, low cloud and the wind was 020/22G35 made for a fun approach :)

Congrats on passing your PPL, an obligatory 'now you learn to fly' etc! We really should try and arrange some sort of Ocuk aviation meet, with or without aircraft.

Awesome, great to see a pilot on OcUK :D Dream job, but too expensive :(
