Leaving England to settle in Montrose, Angus, Scotland. - tips?

I'm in central Scotland but I ever want to get away for the weekend then there is no place on earth to match the natural beuty of the north of Scotland.

When I was a lad my dad used to take me fishing up there, he would make us climb these mountains, to go fishing I hear you say? Well on these mountains were some of the best small "lakes" for the want of a better word that were jam packed full of fish.

As well as the NC 500 a must do is the Munros. If you like the out doors there is no where better.

Wait till you see this land. Get out and explore it. We have views that have been described as not just the best in the UK but some of the best on planet earth!. We are spoiled indeed. Come see it. And we are a friendly bunch. :) For such a wee place. ;)

Montrose is nice, plenty to see and do within an hours drive, especially being an outdoorsy type.

If you’re looking to escape London, I can’t imagine anywhere better than the north of Scotland.

I work for DPD have done for years and they are happy to relocate me to a depot in Scotland.

I believe the local DPD depot is in Portlethen so that will be a short commute for you. The depot used to be in the Altens industrial estate in Aberdeen which was right next to where I worked at the time. They were top chaps and I was able to visit them when I was working a night shift to pick up parcels.

Don't worry too much about midges: it's the west coast that's the midge coast. They're present inland, of course, but a dose of Smidge does the trick. And you will find the weather rather better than you expect: the Aberdeen area is one of the sunniest places - though not the warmest! The area is sheltered from the north and west by mountains.

On the downside you do need to be prepared for pervasive low-level anti-English racism. Stickers on lamp-posts, general criticism of 'English rule' etc etc.
