Ledley King retires.

I didn't think Spurs fans could get any more crazy but I've been proven wrong there... Better than Terry and Ferdinand, oh dear.

I'm betting that you've never seen King play more than a handful of times and therefore aren't in a good position to judge.

His injury woes were both a curse and a blessing to Spurs. He never had a consistent run in the team but his injuries also put off clubs like Manchester United from trying to buy him. He was definitely a better defender than Sol Campbell and Sol Campbell did very well at the highest level.

So it's gone from he was better than Terry and Ferdinand, to now that he was definitely better than Sol Campbell...right, ok then!

He wasn't better or as good as Terry or Ferdinand, just like Hargreaves wasn't god, players are overhyped and King is a prime example of that.

I'm not denying that he wasn't a good player, because he was, but to suggest that he was as good as Terry and Ferdinand is just the bonkers overhype talking.

He was a good player but some of the comments made about him were crazy. His injury situation might have ruined his career but it made his reputation because it was a good story.

I never said he was better than Terry and Ferdinand. :) I'm just saying that most people on here aren't in a decent position to judge whether he was or not. Some people who were in a position to judge (i.e. Thierry Henry) said he was a better player though.

No, but you were seemingly agreeing with that statement.

And I'm not sure where Thierry Henry said he was a better player than Ferdinand or Terry, just the fact that 'here' (wherever that is that he was talking about, who knows?) King could get it without tugging his shirt and that he didn't like players that did.

Ferdinand is actually a pretty clean defender that doesn't give away fouls or get many cards.

Still, I can't see where Henry said that King was better than Ferdinand/Terry.

I'm still unconvinced about his greatness, good player, sure, undeniably better than Terry, Rio, Sol etc.... no. Maybe "on his day" but not over a period of years. Even if he was fit he still wouldn't have been a regular in my England team.

As for the injuries, a few years ago I got laughed at by a Spurs fan for daring to suggest that King and Woodgate were injury prone (can't remember exactly how I phrased it... think I said they were a liability and Spurs needed cover or something). Yet look at his stats, in his entire career spanning back into the previous millenium, he only ever managed 30 games a season in all competitions 3 times, and never since 2005. Even so-called crocks like Redknapp, Anderton, Hargreaves, Owen etc have far better records by comparison on that stat. Rooney did it 3 times as a teenager, lol :)

Was the ideal time for him to retire really. Towards the end of last season you could see just how badly all those injuries had effected him, he looked amateur at best against Grant Holt at WHL.

If he and Woodgate had been consistently fit for Spurs, they could have been a seriously good team. Good player who never fully reached his potential.

I hear Diaby is actually one of the best midfielders in the world, if only he could stay fit he would have easily won France the European cup.

RvP is one of the best strikers in the world, if only he'd stay fit for a few seasons!

There is hope for Abou yet.

I actually like Diaby, it's just immensely frustrating when he ghosts past three players and then stumbles into the fourth like an absolute tard, not to mention the whole permanently being injured thing. Last time I saw him play was against Blackpool. :D

To be fair I don't think anyone would have taken a punt on Ledley in the transfer market due to him being a cripple, so this business about him being a one club player is irrelevant.

Never actually proved himself to be anything better than decent, however he did have massive potential. It's a real shame for him really. Seems like a nice guy as well.
