Left 4 Dead, am i missing something?

Right i bought this game on steam when it was half price and i had a quick blitz on it the other day on single play for about an hour or so, then i had half an hour online.

What i want is someone to explain what all the fuss is about? I really dont get the fascination with this game. To me it just seems like a mindless 'shoot in all directions with no skill what so ever' kinda of game.

CSS and TF2 are so much better.

I really just want some help grasping the plot and what i am missing?

I thought this when I first played it. It takes a while to get into but it's worth it in the long run. The single player is really just the learners pool before diving on-line. As soon as I got into the -vs- mode it soon became quite addictive.

It does help to play with people you have played with before because team work is the key otherwise you get into all sorts of trouble. So like Bledd. says, take a look at the players listed here.

The way I see it, is that it is good for an evenings senseless shooting having a laugh at the same time. I've never been into online gaming but this certainly changed that.

Stick with it.

edit - Actually, I've been too into Fallout 3 recently so might have a dable this weekend :D

what are you on about? its VERY easy against ocuk people. no offense, but a lot of u suck at l4d.

Yep that will be me then haha.. #hears Link saying Keep up Huddy# To be honest, I don't care. I have a good laugh which meets my expectations of the game. Where's the fun if it's taken too seriously. It's a game for gods sake!

To be honest i think the game is great and kinda original. But i do believe the hype around the game was a bit to much. Then again all games are at the moment. I just hope they dont make a new LFD every year like the COD games are right now.

You're not missing much... I've tried the game as well and agree it is a "Skill-less" experiance. LFD = zombies shoot..zombies shoot... oh look more zombies and on and on, its a point and click in all directions mixed with no stragety at all game. Its what some people like but I will pass on this game.

To add more to this the main emphasis of the game is killing zombies and other nasties as a team. The biggest let down for me was 6 guns ?! wtf lol and to be honest they might aswell only be 3, because they are the only ones used in the most part. I know LFD2 is probably going to change this, but in my eyes its an issue which should have been dealt with in the original. ^^

Yer this is the exact view i have.

...but i just can't quite see what the fuss is about, and i really want to enjoy the game i just need to understand where the enjoyment comes from.

I've had some pretty good games with random players. When you've got a group of mildly competent players and your battling againts the odds, it has its moments of epicness(due to the player and director randomness), that its hard to be rivalled in other games.

Oddly enough, I went off FPS games in a big way a bunch of years ago, but L4D is the only one I have thoroughly enjoyed.

I haven't had time to play since securing a gf, but the games I did play with the OCUK lot were tonnes of fun, and there is certainly strategy involved, impossible to win a versus without it and constant teamwork.

I can see your point if your only playing single player or playing the game Vs bots

Have you ever played Versus with players who actually know how to play this game ?

To say you only have 6 guns....what do you want, heli's and ground vihicles ? rocket launcher ?

This game is all about team play for me and trying to outwit the opposition, play some 4v4's and 8v8's with other ppl from OCuK and tell me its a let down!

Add a few of us from the player pages mate, there are normally a few games that go on each night, you are wlecome to join us and have a laugh.

A mic would be an advantage though :)

you need 4 skilled players on expert with mics and then you hit ownage its all about teamwork not about beating anyone but a computer generated enemy its not competitive but relaxing to own the tank

+1

Once you play people who have played the game for a bit you will find special infected spawning in all sorts of locations you hadnt even thought of and it really keeps you and you team mates on your toes. A ninja boomer normally produces lolz

When my regular L4D teams not around I often play versus via OcUK servers, good laugh and i would recommend OP pays a visit before passing game judgment :)

Do you play Urban Terror? I've seen someone with that name (admittedly it's not exactly an uncommon name) on the 95th Rifles/Nitro servers I play on atm. I'm FrenchTart in game.

/re Left4Dead... It's a very good game and can require skill. I really suck at it these days, but it's still fun to run around, getting repeatedly "nom'd" by the hunters :)

You're sort of missing out the whole infected half of the game there........
