Just watching a programme about John Lennon and mark chapman, any 1 else hate mark chapman for doing what he did. it still upsets me now even after 25-26 years.

He shot and killed John Lennon, who was one of the two major songwriters in the Beatles.

Do I hate him? I think its a shame he killed John :( I'll never get to see him as he died even before I was born. George's left us too :(

Have seen Paul live though, and that was the closest I'll ever get to seeing the Beatles, unless Ringo decides to do something with him.

He always said that the only reason he killed Lennon was so he'd be famous, so we should refrain from even mentioning his name which only serves to give him the publicity he so desperately craved.

This thread should thus be closed ;)

He isn't famous, he's infamous. :D

Good Point

The only reason he killed him was because he felt he had to. He was a huge Beatles fan, the first record he own'd was one.

Catcher in the Rye is a book thats always associated with Lennons death, I read it once, it was dull as, but Mark Chapman felt so much association with the main character (Holden Caulfield) he became that character

A little story -

In the late 80's I used to have a penfriend who I traded with on the Atari ST.
At least 100 letters passed between us and he always mentioned Van Morrison.
Phone calls cost a hell of a lot more then but even the odd phone call had him talking about Van Morrison for most of the time.
Van Morrison was doing a 7 date tour and he wrote to tell me he had got tickets for 6 of the shows which were all over Britain.
He then wrote to me after watching the 6 shows and the letter went something like this :
"I sat in the front row of the NEC and I was about 4 foot from Van at times.
I looked up at the stage and thought that I know more about you than you know about yourself and you don't even know me.
Sometimes I know how Mark Chapman feels and why he killed John Lennon"

I very quickly left the Atari scene after that letter.

Forgive my disbelief. It took you that long to figure the person was somewhat unbalanced?

As cynical as that comment is it has a hint of truth, lennon was just another angry young man who wasn't as smart or great as he thought he was. Makes me slightly nauseous to hear people gushing over his mediocre output. Listen to arthur lee to hear a true angry genius!!!!

Not really, I think most of us have mates who have one track minds.
About two years ago I bought a Jethro Tull DVD that I won on Ebay. The bloke lived 2 miles from me and I collected it. We chatted for about a hour and everytime I changed the conversation he would bring it back to Jethro Tull. When I got home I looked on Ebay for what he had bought and every item was to do with Jethro Tull
I'm still waiting for the headlines "Trentham man shoots Ian Anderson".

Indeed. The best career move Lennon ever made was to get killed. If he was still alive now he'd be ranked up there with Mick Hucknall.
