Lenovo Legion 5 Pro

Whilst I don't have a Legion 5 Pro, I have done some digging and found I have identical ram to that shown in the Jarrod's Tech video (Samsung Single Rank x16 stuff - bizarrely it also doesn't seem to exist on the Samsung website).

Ordered the Fury Impact 32GB kit thanks to the suggestions in this thread :)

Should give me a nice little performance bump (even its just a placebo it makes me feel better :p) and more capacity for Davinci Resolve.

Alright the new ram is installed :)

Clearly some improvements made :) could you by any chance share your zen timings screenshot so i can compare and ensure mine has gone full speed out of the box. So odd that there is absolutely no control over these speeds inside the bios.

Looks identical to mine :)

Hi I am thinking about getting the same RAM(just got my L5P), but something is off about your Fclk and MCLK, they are supposed to be 1:1. But for your ram not only did it go down to 800, but it is now 1:2 ratio. Maybe laptop SO-DIMM behave differently, but for my desktop zentiming I definitely go 1:1.

My desktop ram Zentiming for reference.

So reading through this thread am I right in saying I should just get the 8gb ram version and buy my own 32gb ram?

Legion 7
AMD 5800
3070
8gb
512 SSD
£1649

That’s what I’d do.

Where are you buying from? Lenovo direct? Make sure you get the 10% off newsletter discount.

No. Lenovo seemed sold out, this was one of the other high Street retailers ( no names to not break the forum rules)

Lenovo use a wide range of SSDs even in the same model, some are pretty terrible too.

I've had a cheap Ideapad come with an OEM 970 Evo Plus and an Legion 5 Pro come with a nasty DRAMless Adata 2242 drive. The truth is you're probably not going to notice the difference between any NVME drive in all honesty.

Thinking of buying the legion 5

amd ryzen 7 5800
Rtx 3070 TGP 130W
16gb ram
17” screen 144hz 300 nits free sync and Dolby vision

I was only going to buy a laptop for football manager but then bought spend a few more hundred and I can play horizon 5, halo and fable when it’s released etc. I have both gen consoles but want to play football manager pc version rather than toned down console version

is the legion 5 good and does it suffer from overheating? I have only ever bought 3 laptops. ASUS and Acer lasted me 15 months each while MacBook Pro lasted me just over 10 years but died on me about 3 years ago. I just wanted to make sure I’m getting the right one as it’s fair bit of money £1400 . I can get the same spec laptop but 3060 graphics card for £1249 is it worth paying the extra and do laptops last or do they give up quickly because cooling system not very good?

Higher resolution screen with lower end GPU means lower frame rates if not running native. Bit you could have no AA as generall with very high ppi AA isn't needed or you use less CPU intensive aa.

You use supersampling which performs at higher res but then the downscaled it.

thank you. As I say I will be using it for football manager but since have seen can play horizon 5 and other games at high FPS which is handy weekends when I’m not at home and not able to play on consoles. Would you recommend I go for the 3070 graphics card laptop which is £100 cheaper but just full hd rather than higher res screen? However that model has 3060 graphics card.
I’m not so sure I would need that high quality screen as it’s only 17”. Also heard Lenovo keyboards get very warm on the right hand side not sure how true this is but for gaming I would use my razor keyboard and mouse I think and Xbox controller for forza

Girlfriend would like a gaming laptop, she has started playing "Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodhunt", unsure if this requires a high powered laptop but could anyone recommend one of the Lenovo (Or a different laptop manufacturer)?

I have been looking at the 16" but I think she would prefer the bigger 17" screen but I am unsure if the larger screen is worth it if it comes with a lower GPU?

Budget of around £1500 - £1800.

I would personally go for the 16” QHD screen over the 1” bigger 17” FHD screen

The legion 7 would be my pick, the legion 5 is good too if you really want 17”.

Total: £3,008.64 (includes shipping: £8.70)

Hi LiE, thanks for that, I take it either of them would quite happily play any of the newest games out at the moment or likely to be coming out?

Although she likes gaming and has a PS5, I know if the graphics have to be turned down slightly so it is playable she would be happy.

3070 is more than powerful enough to handle current games. QHD is a little more demanding but the screen is really good.
