Lenovo Legion 5 Pro

Only had the laptop for a week it was fine for a fair few days but after some gaming sessions im starting to hear the fans more at idle?

Cinebench hitting 98-100 degrees via HWmonitor on a 12700H RTX 3070 TI

Not sure if it was to do with the bios upgrade in the Vantage software any ideas people?

Reading on Reddit it a good idea to get a laptop cooling stand, and this post below on Reddit is exactly the same thing I have with the laptop.

Edit: However my Cinebench score is 17200

I gave up with mine when I had it was too hot and loud for me. Now have a normal 5 and it’s much more manageable. I tried a cooling pad and it made a small difference but was nothing amazing and did not affect noise.

Im also using the Legion fan control on my 5 it allows you to let the CPU heat up a bit before the fans kick in as the Legion control is far too aggressive with its fan control and there is still no manual control. It’s worth looking into if it supports the 5 Pro….

Im getting a pad tommorow actually, speaking to that person on Reddit in chat he had 3 boards etc changed and still same thing.

My fans are audible though now even selecting quiet mode avg 39-45 degrees idle on CPU.

Ive read about this Legion fan control abit scared at setting it up in truth any ideas what I should pick for my laptop?

I would try the Fan control it has transformed my 5 it’s now silent in general use and the fans ramp up when under load. It takes a bit of trial and error getting it set right but when done it’s all automatic. I pretty much disabled the fans until the CPU gets to 60c and then gradually set them to increase as temps rise. It never goes above 92c on CPU but I’m on AMD so different to Intel…..

What's a good one for about £1300 +- 100.

Won't be gaming really. But want a decent screen and ram.

Don't need to spend that much. I've just bought laptop £600, octo core ryzen, 16gb ram , 16" 16:10, integrated GPU. Not sure what screen type.

Either way if £600 gets you that, then only bit more for a decent panel.

Keep an eye on the Lenovos around Black Friday imo, it's so close now. The legions have a mux switch which is a very nice to have, and previously this came up

6800H
32GB DDR5
1TB SSD
3070TI
QHD 165Hz screen
£1299

If this or something similar comes back, I will likely bite.

Would this be direct from Lenovo when BF is on?

Thanks for the tip.

It was via a reseller (with manufacturer support), but Lenovo also run sales direct, so keep an eye out, as I'm really hoping we see a repeat of this deal.

Very good chance it will. Laptop /PCs sales have dropped of a fair bit over the last six months could be some good deals about. Comes down to the manufactures at the end of the day and the web shops pass it on with their own mark up`s.

Seen this recently, but will be holding out for the above or similar I think.

5800H
16GB DDR4
512GB SSD
3070
17.3 IPS 144Hz screen
£1099

That is also good, I personally don't mind paying a bit extra, as the 3070Ti seems like a decent jump up in mobile format over the 3070, plus the extra RAM, double sized SSD, newer processor and better screen are all worth a bit to me, so another 200 seems perfectly reasonable.

Honestly, I like the 17" models, and maybe I'd actually consider one for myself; and realise they offer extra expansion room, battery space and room for better cooling, but having had 17" laptops for multiple years, it'd be easier for the Mrs to move hers around and use it more flexibly if it was 15"; and my understanding is the 15" 6800H Lenovo Legions with the 145W 3070TIs actually perform extremely well for a 15" unit, right up there with a lot of other 17" units; so would be an ideal compromise for us; bit faster, more mobile, fresh warranty, and considerably better battery life than our prior gaming/all round laptops, and for the Mrs, it'd be small enough it'd be able to fulfil multiple roles and replace multiple laptops for her.

I'll be honest, I tried to BUY the machines at £1299, as it's a great all round spec for the money, but got screwed over by bad luck, and they went out of stock whilst I was still in checkout, and wouldn't do anything to help with it after the fact, and I certainly wasnt paying the £1799 price after having had it in my basket for £500 less a pop.

If it comes back BF, or a better deal, I'll likely be pressing fire on two.

Mine has just developed a 1 pixel white line going all the way from the top to the bottom of the display on the left hand side, I've only had it just over a month. Appears in the BIOS too so it's 100% a hardware fault.

Purchased from Overclockers and extremely disappointed that I now have to RMA it and wait for up to a month for a repair, as Overclockers won't accept a return because it just falls outside of their 30 day returns policy. Insanity that half of my time owning this device will now be waiting for a repair.

My 5 year old XPS just had a similar failure. First it was one line down the left then 2,3 and 4 etc. I think the most it had was 7 lines at different parts of the screen.

Over the course of a few weeks the lines went away down to just one on the left again.

Turned it on again last night and this morning and all the lines have gone!

I'm guessing it's a loose connection or something to do with heat / cold because I thought it would just get worse but it ended up being fixed! (for now!)

Anyone playing MW2 on the 5i pro? what settings you using had to drop to performance and changing a few things, seem to get abit of micro stutter aswell annoyingly.

I would like to ask a question about the CAS Latency . I purchased the KF432S20IB1K2 on EBAY, but the CPU-Z shows that the CAS Latency is CL22 instead of CL20. Is there a problem with the Ram I purchased? Thank you.

I would hazard a guess you've maybe unfortunately got fake RAM, it's unfortunately a problem where they'll take a worse set and relabel, I've seen it before with Kingston/eBay.

Recently decided I'd like a new laptop and narrowed down my choices to include the 5 pro due to the panel and mux switch, but it looks like I've missed all the deals on these.
I've seen how low they went recently and just can't justify paying over 1700 now.
I wonder if they'll be on sale again before black Friday 2023..
