Lens for animals (pets) portrait - aps-c canon

yeah i just went for 1. and very well packed, great service. Had two pieces of kit from DR now.

i did go for the sigma 35mm 1.4 in the end.
its fairly heavy for what it is!

one thing i am finding in general is autofocus more often than not just doesnt work.
this isnt just with this lens. most of my pictures recently are not in focus. sometimes very very far out

great pic!

that DoF is tiny!

Thanks!

Now imagine that he moves around non-stop.

I am on my stomach on the floor so can't really move that fast, imagine army men movement.

It was shot with a 35/1.4 at 1.4 so there was no zoom, no way to chase after him and really shallow DoF...

I must've been insane ! :D

p.s. that was shot with 5D Mkii (two), with the outer point focusing...

Does your camera need micro adjusting? Have you tested the focus with a chart? It could just be your technique f1.4 is a very narrow dof.
