Less than a month now 'till my operation

For those that are interested, the op is tomorrow. Got to be up at 6, in hospital by 7. Hopefully they'll be working through the list alphabetically (I'm Alex Booth) so I'll be operated on fairly early.

Bag is all packed, have a strange sense of excitement... and a tiny bit of nervousness.

Hey just though I'd let anyone who's interested know Syph has had the op and it was a success, he's a bit achey and sore but I'll let him give you a full update when he gets home tomorrow!

Thanks for all the good luck wishes,

Syph's Missus.

missed this thread cant imagin having to live with something like that for so long but good to hear the op went well, get well soon and be sure to get your biggest most fave meal in the whole world down you to celebrate :)

oh dear this is probably really uncomfortable and not pleasant and painful.

hope your operation went well and you will be enjoying your food without any discomfort ;)

Should be home sometime this afternoon, he's got to have soft foods such as soups, yoghurts, ice cream, rice pudding etc for about 2 weeks while the swelling goes down! Then I think it will be all of his favourite resturants in one week :D

Thanks again

Syphs missus.

Nice one Syph's missess for keeping us posted. Good luck with the recovery Syph :)

Going to attempt a meal that's not too acidic, carb-based, or anything green/salad. Pretty stuck for ideas, lol.

Chili no rice (+ sour creme)
Steak
Prawn stir fry (go easy on the veg)
Pan fried Fish

Good luck with the eating.

All that was a no-no (meat, stuff fried and spicy), and will be for a couple of weeks! :D

Thank you all for the well wishes!

The operation went really well apparently, and did a really good job. Went under at about 9.30 I think and woke up at 11.20. Straight onto the morphine (10mg) whilst in recovery and attempted my first drink. Felt really nervous at first so spat it out, then thought 'sod it' and actually swallowed - and all the water went down. Felt amazing.

Got onto the ward at 2pm (couldn't get a bed, and judging by my discharge today I know why...) and had a bit more water. Dinner arrived at 4 ish, but couldn't face the soup - although being spoon-fed vanilla ice cream by my lovely fiancee was great! Got a bit emotional too. :o

No stopping me since then. I've drank loads of water, couple of cups of tea and managed two bowls of soup and more ice cream this lunch. Been able to move about, albeit slowly. Pain isn't too bad on paracetamols.

Stomach is quite sore - I've got 4 incisions which are glued and a larger one which has one stitch. Shoulders bloody kill - this is from the CO2 used for the keyhole op. Also feel quite swollen in my stomach, quite bloated from the food I've eaten. Because of the way the operation works, I'll struggle to burp so my stomach has a lot of air in it.

But my good it feels good just to get stuff down! :D
