Lets discuss about magic!

Who is your favourite magician? What are your views on magic? Which magic clips do you like?

I personally do not have a favourite magician, but here are a couple of videos of magicians I do like :)

Paul Daniels

I've seen Paul Daniels live and he really is superb. He gets a lot of stick but he's one of the best and most professional magicians about. I've seen him perform that chop cup routine and it's incredible.

I have met Paul Daniels many of times. He can perform 4 shows in a year and earn the average salary. :|

This video is one I keep watching, I think it is brilliant.

Blaine throws cards at window > stop camera > run in restaurant > put card inside window > start camera.
See, this is why I'm not a fan of Gitwizard*.

You see a trick on TV that looks good (like when he "levitated" several meters above the ground) but then you find out that he did his mini-levitating trick to get the audience reaction then re-filmed it with extras dressed the same using a crane. Anyone can do anything if you're going to allow TV to be your only medium. I've seen people travel through Stargates and fight with lightsabres on TV. I can respect performers who play to live audiences, but anyone who's tricks rely on the viewer watching a TV doesn't cut it for me I'm afraid. I'd rather watch Jonathan Creek. Cleverer, and doesn't pretend to be real.

*Thanks to Marcus Brigstocke for that :D

My favorite was the Masked Magician. Probably 'cos I grew up watching him. Always made sure I watched the show. I liked Penn and Teller aswel.
My uncle was a favorite aswel. Not famous, but everytime I saw him he would show me a trick.

I like optical illusions (spelling sorry). Really like doing those Magic Eye pictures. I can get them nearly everytime as my uncle showed me a quick way to do them.

Overall, I like magic, something that I could watch over and over again (as long as there not really obvious tricks!).

Saw Copperfield in Vegas a few months ago, was sat at the very front against the stage and still couldn't see how he did everything :(

I understand what you are saying, it hurts me when magicians do this, there are a lot of magicians who can take months even years to learn a magic effect or routine which can be so good. Then you get the famous magicians who use camera tricks.

Awww that is cool :)

I want to see him live! :( I will one day I am sure!

There can only be one Ali Bongo

Wasn't he the big boss at the Magic Circle for years?

Yeah, as far as I can remember he was the last president at the MC, I have met him many of times and have had conversations and I must say that he is very interesting to listen to, and he is also very wise. He gave me a magic trick when I was 12 or 13 :)

Was a good show, when he made a car appear on stage it was quite impressive. As i said we were right up against the stage and still were not able to see how anything could have been done!

Seemed a nice chap as well, was pretty casual (he was just wearing some jeans and a t shirt) rather than the mega tense hyped up stuff you see him do on tv.

Thats what he called it

Haha, dirty bugger :p

That sounds wicked! You make me want to see him more.

Lee Florida performed at our football club's presentation evening earlier in the year and he was brilliant. There's some clips of him on youtube which are well worth looking at (can't provide a link as I'm at work).

Earlier this year I had to book a table Magician for a Graduation do.
I made enquiries and was told he was as good as David Blaine with his close up magic.
I got him for a bargain price of £125 and he was bloody awful.
He bought 3 tricks with him that had been bought out of a joke shop -
1 - A very simple rope trick
2 - Wallet that caught fire
3 - A card trick which he showed you how to do

He went round the punters and then onto the tables while my boss kept giving me a dirty look.
She still ribs me now about it.

I remember watching them fire a bullet into eachothers mouths a few years back, and catch it in their teeth... was really tense stuff, and I'm pretty convinced it was real, judging by the ambulance crews on standby etc, and the general atmosphere.

Mythbusters says no!
