So since it appears people love nothing more than a good old debate on what is the best console lets debate the mid 90's!

I had the Saturn, PlayStation and N64. I would say that the PlayStation is top dog out of the 3 closely followed by the N64. Some classics like Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy 7, Tekken 2 edges it for me. Plus don't get me started on demo discs. Official PlayStation magazine was bettet for this reason alone! Loved a demo disc!

Saturn was a shame, some great games on there such as nights but the hardware really held it back early on.

N64 should have never went with cartridges to be honest. Mario 64 and Zelda were awesome though along with those WCW vs NWO games!

Ahhh running out of time on this commute.....

Saturn, PSX and N64 oh the joys :)

I must admit I only got a Saturn many years later and thoroughly enjoyed it.
PSX and N64 a very tight battle imho with PSX coming out just on top due to the amount of AAA titles that were released and the controller, really didnt get on with the N64 pad.

You did miss out the jaguar, but at the time I dont remember it being as mainstream as any of the other systems. I greatly enjoyed Theme Park and AvP on the Jag tho, by far one of the best alien games to date imho.

You seem against cartridges, I see it as a plus point for the N64 really, load times :) /QUOTE]

Cartridges still had slight load times, no where near the PlayStation levels. Yeah the Jaguar was left out along with the Amiga CD-Rom console and the Panasonic 3DO plus the Philips CDI!

PSX and Dreamcast (just 90s) here.

Phantasy Star Online was so ahead of it's time on Dreamcast, ran up many a phone bill on it. Crazy Taxi et al were awecome, shame it was Sega's hardware swansong.

Yeah, I was only focusing on the mid 90's. Dreamcast was a grout console!

"Let's start a ... console war"...? While it's fine to go back in time and enjoy some nostalgia, being this childish (which is what console wars are) is perhaps taking it a bit too far.

It was meant to be tongue in cheek :)

Nobody is really going to argue over mid 90's consoles are they

Can't believe no ones mentioned the Sega 32x, great for the arcade hits of the time Star Wars , Virtua Racing and Virtua Fighter. Dog of a system though.

Had all others too saturn, mega drive, PSX my brother had the Snes, N64 etc.

Good times

Mega CD and the 32X were not strictly consoles are such. There was a reason Nintendo papped that idea and in turn giving birth to the PlayStation!

Having owned previous Sega consoles I had my eye on the Saturn before it came out. But after talking to the owner of the local game shop, he persuaded me to get the PlayStation.
.

I originally went for the Sega Saturn, once FF7 came out I swapped my Saturn along with 3 control pads and 20 games for a PlayStation and FF7....

Think I'll agree my mate got one. Cost a fortune. Road rash was fun on it. It was truthfully told a highly priced bit of hardware which on paper sounded very good. But in practice everything else just walked all over it.

Who remembers the Amiga cd32. I had one, That was terrible as well truth told. Bodyblows and quick dirty Amiga games plonked on CD.

Yes, the Amiga CD32. I played one in a shop one time! :p

Regarding the 3DO, the best selling game on the console was Gex.

Looks fairly meh:

I like a fool got a cd32, my love for the Amiga machines blinded me, and I soon realised my purchase was a mistake... The cd32 gamepad was horrendously bad and the system was soon discontinued and I don't think anyone was too upset or surprised.. Shocking what commodore did to the Amiga brand.

Ewwww that control pad, can't unsee.......

:p

Yea, still had a large amount of games and played the hell out of more than any other system at that time.

At least somebody misses it ;)

I think usually there is always some good games on each platform. Wait the virtual boy might not have... :)

I remember being super excited when the guy at school won one and was heading round to play.

I totally forgot about the Neo Geo in all of this, I don't think anybody mentioned that yet!

The Gamecube was the start of the end when myself and Nintendo were concerned.

N64 was faaaaaaaaaar better than the Gamecube. Plus the N64 had fairly decent third party support, no way near the PS levels but that was huge.
