Let's reintegrate some words back into the language

It's a pretty poor show when chaps get together like this to take a rise out of a fellow just because of the way he articulates himself.

But seriously - I want the word "gay" back. It has been stolen and forced to behave very badly by two competing groups.

1) Parents are afraid to name their girls "Gay" now. The Flintones would never be allowed to have "a gay old time" before the nine o'clock watershed. The hijackers aren't "gay" and proud, they're homosexual and afraid of the word.

2) Playground slang/teenspeak for "being a bit stupid or crass". How did this dear, sweet little english word come to get such an ugly meaning.

"What's the devil is wrong with you?" Piffle!

Recently I used "Disjunct" at work... people commented they had to look it up. I can accept that from the NL guys but the older guy that sits next to me..
Disjunct is a fabulous word. It sounds as if someone's using incorrect grammar - it's just like a sharp 90 degree bend in the fluidity of sentence.

IIRC it was something like "We cannot have two disjunct spheres of communication" although that example seems ok to me.. it's lots in my work email.

Stop questioning, Tefal old bean, or you'll get him disgruntled :p

Here, here. I would prefer that the right honourable gentleman ceases from this line of questioning and direct his attention to the task at hand. :p

Otherwise one will have to question his disturbing statement and possibly allege allegiance to grammar fascism! :D ;)

I try to use the word obfuscate as much as possible as it is not only fun to say, but actually very useful. (To darken, put into shadow, obscure or hide). Plus the added bonus is that 'obfuscated' can mean drunk or, as I prefer to call it, tired and emotional.

As a family we all try to use pronate, pronated, pronation and its opposites supinate, supinated, supination as much as possible because apart from summing things up quite magnificently, its good to watch peoples' faces when they try and work out what's going on.
