I run through these traps and have done for the past year or so, I have just received a letter through "Notice of Intended Prosecution" for exceeding 50mph and an alleged offence of 59mph.

I have to fill in form and send back within 28 days but no mention of fines or points on there? it just asks me to fill in a form stating driving licence details, DOB, if I was the owner/keeper at the time, and address of nominated driver

Is there any loop holes in the system at the moment for these? I was the driver at the time yes.

Also it says

A lot of people on here will more than likely say grow some balls and its your fault for speeding you should never have done it in the first place like they're are perfect drivers and never go over the limit.

I would say go to www.pepipoo.com because they can be real helpful in situations like this and between the members on there Id say they have most of the laws covered and can give you the facts

When were you caught? That's about the only "get out" if they sent the NIP too late.

No, we say it because its true, but we do go over the limit, we just pay speeding fines when we get them?

Woooo 9 MPH over the 50 limit or 2-3mph over what set it off in the first place, I do the commute on a daily basis and run through 2-3 miles of average traps.

What jolted me is the fact that there is no mention of points or fines or if this is indeed a legit letter

I'll give the link a go, ta :)

But wouldn't you ask if there was a possibility of contesting it?

No not really, why would I? I've had one speeding ticket, I was irritated, realised I probably deserved it for being inattentive enough to sail through a speed camera at over the limit, paid it and got on with my life.

I'm NO fan of the speed limits AT ALL, but the one principle I do stick to is that any decision to exceed them is mine and mine alone and I should face the consequences if caught.

I don't really see how anyone can argue otherwise?

There's no mention of points or fine yet as the letter is enquiring who was driving at the time, THEN you'll get the prosecution info.

Average cameras suck, sure.
But why must everyone drive at 50 mph across all four lanes of the M25?

Makes it much harder to make progress when driving around on foreign plates. Not a fan of weaving through traffic, GTA style.

Oh, and OP - Man up and pay up.

I have never heard of anyone getting caught by SPECS cameras before. I was beginning to think they were just there for show. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of wiggle room on this one. You can contest it of course, but it's a gamble which will probably not pay off; you'd lose more money in lost work hours alone than it's worth if it goes to court, and that's assuming you win. Only worth it if you want to make a principled stand, and if you know you didn't do what they're accusing you of.

Basically, the people sending you this letter are sitting there going "chi-ching".

Finally someone who speeds past me in a 50 mph road works section gets caught! Hallelujah!!!!!

There is no get out clause, you did the deed now decrease your speed!

You averaged 9 mph over the limit so probably were peaking much higher (unless this happened at off peak times and could keep a very constant speed) and with the allowable over read your speedometer would have been showing closer to 70 on occasion.

Ever had a parking ticket fox?

Can I answer that one?

Since I first took to the road in 1992 on a moped, to now, having passed my Motorcycle, Car and HGV tests, having done 12 years of multidrop/HGV driving in amongst other things I havent had a single parking ticket, speeding fine, or any points of any kind, for any offence.

The key is to pay attention to what you are doing.

I've had one, which I successfully appealed. Paying attention is fine, if they aren't maintaining markings and signs in the control zone then by all means contest it. Why keep up to your side of the bargain if they can't be bothered too?

I parked in a parking space for longer than I'd paid for. It was hugely annoying - I was in a shop opposite and the ticket was timed at exactly a minute past the time the meter expired - but how could I argue? I was parked there for 46 minutes when I paid for 45..
