Letting the monkey out

Drinking alone is called alcoholism.

And I happen to think thats *****. Whoever came up with that is an idiot.

I have drank alone many times - I am in no way an alcoholic.

Would you say a person who smokes a joint on his own is a drug addict ? Or a person who masterbates is a sex addict ? Would it be more acceptable to go to a bar and actively seek out someone to have my 3 pints with - or sit alone at home and have 3 pints in the comfort of my own front room ? Seriously - whats the difference.

It's absolute rubbish & I can't believe people still believe that quote from years ago - and still asume someone has a booze problem just becuase they drink alone...... I don't even think AA spout that stuff anymore as they realise there is no scientific basis for it.

I think he means regularly, like 50-70 units a week regularly. Same for the drugs.

Most alchohol is passed straight through the liver. People that drink a bottle of Whisky a day can have normal Liver function. Very little is known about liver function. FACT!

I doubt you would have normal liver function after a few years of a bottle of whisky a day - unless you weren't human. The way alcohol is metabolised in the human body has been known for many years - and basically - it's a poison that has to be broken down into many other chemicals (resulting in cell death).

lets see you in 3 years time after drinking a bottle of whiskey a day:rolleyes:(you wont look good)

Take it from somebody who has alcohol induced liver damage,it will destroy your liver.

** there are the relatively rare cases where some people seem to be able to do extreme drinking and not be as wrecked internaly as others but thats genetics for you. a lot of chinese people lack enzymes to break down alcohol and get drunk easier and id imagine would suffer more damage to the liver than those who have the enzymes required to break it down(northen europeans)

I love drinking alone. Browsing the next, listening to music, posting on here, it's all good fun. It's gone wrong once though.

I've been there. Got a nice bottle of whisky as a job leaving present, and not being a great whisky drinker, I was quite surprised by how easily it was going down. That one ended very badly. I remember half way through my attack on the bottle having a craving for crisps and ate a load, and then chips, so probably cooked about a kilo, then ate them. They made quite the mess of the bathroom. That was 4 months ago. I still haven't plucked up the courage to have any more whisky.

How so? Being nosy lol

I got home after a heavy night out and decided it would be a good idea to start a thread on here about how I'd tried on a load of women's clothes that night. I then proceeded to post drunken ramblings, including a photographic timeline of my sexual history, and other random things which I thought would be good to share, such as how I 'pumped' a girl from work 4 times before stopping because my knees hurt.

The thread was, fortunately, deleted the next morning.

If you're with Warren Zevon it's not drinking alone.

50-70 units a week! You do realise they say you shouldnt drink more than around 21 untis per week.

I pity your liver.......

It works out ~2 bottles of spirit at 40% ABV per week. A 70cl bottle at 40% ABV contains 28 units of alcohol.

My liver feels fine, my life suffers no impediment and I excel at my job (I actually got promoted today). But I do feel like there is something positive to be said for drinking alone, getting to know your limits, your downfalls with Mr. Booze etc.
