By that definition bananas and apples are vegetables...
True fruits are developed from the ovary in the base of the flower, and contain the seeds of the plant (though cultivated forms may be seedless). Blueberries, raspberries, and oranges are true fruits, and so are many kinds of nut.
Sexual growth = fruit
vegatative growth = vegetable
If there are seeds in/on it it's a fruit, if it's another bit of the plant like a root (carrot) or a leaf (lettuce) it's a vegetable
BUT!!! I was always taught that there are no rules in biology just trends, as there is always an exception, which makes it a bugger to study

I really don't like the sound of eating a sexual growth, makes it sound like I'd be chewing on genital warts.
Not sure where it comes from but I once saw a great quote: "Biology is the science for people who can't do maths"

But strawberries have the seeds on the outside...
Did you expect a different outcome?
She's wrong and printing it in the largest font possible won't make any difference to that but she may never admit it. Lettuce is a vegetable, it's also a vegetable that can go in a salad but the term salad does not exclusively imply that there will be lettuce in it nor that it must even contain vegetables strictly speaking.
