Well, my brother is nearly 17 so we are thinking of getting him a "bargain barge"

Does anyone know much about Lexus GS300s?
Seen a nice 98 S reg one for £3k with 82k

Seems a steal, but there could be something wrong with it, seems to have reasonable performance, most likely dire handling and boring to drive but in theory it should be a solid workhorse, comfortable and quiet.

Any opinions on the car?

heh, you should meet him first :p

I don't really think it matters what he's like a person. More the fact that, given he's currently 16, he isn't going to be a particularly experienced driver.

Whats wrong with starting out with something less potent and safer?

you will have difficulty insuring that.
No I won't :p

Works out better since we won't have to kill ourselves if someone apart from him has to drive it,

TBH I haven't ever had a "small" car and as long as you don't drive as a nutter you should be ok.

It would probbably be a case of him driving the corolla for 6-9 months to get a bit more experience on his own and then switch.

Anyway, back to the car, anyone owned one?

christ instead of a lecture why doesnt someone answer the question about the car hes not asking about insurance nor how safe he will be.
for once why dont we try answer the questions and move on.

The lexus is a nice barge nothing to serious will go wrong with it so long as its had a full service history.
for the cash your looking to spend there are a lot about as the depreciated a lot lately so should pick up quite a good one for that price.
Never driven one but have been in a few very comfy and a nice place to be.

Becuase someone needs to point out that 17 year olds in cars like this is just stupid.

I know numerous people who have been driving luxury barges since they were 15 without problems, as long as they don't drive like a nutter or "fast" they should be ok.

How can you say that, owning a car is like playing the lottery, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
