LG 29UC88 - anyone got one?

At the time I got mine, around summer 2014:

1. 2560x1080 is much easier on the GPU, to achieve a consistent 50+ FPS in the latest games @ 3440x1440 without completely dropping settings was and still is very tough, you ideally need a top end GPU i.e. a 1070 or preferably 1080 for some of the latest titles, not as much of an issue with fre/g sync models floating around now but even with that tech. I still wouldn't want to be dropping below 50fps

2. far cheaper, £300 vs £900, imo the extra is/was not worth it

3. the 29um65 did a bit better than the LG 34" 1440 model for input lag and response time

EDIT:

Also, the 29" models seemed to have better contrast ratio of about 1200/1300:1 where as the 34" wasn't any higher than 1000:1

Basically because the price increase for a 34" and the necessary GPU power to run it at reasonable frames was just not worth it at all for me.

I needed to get an AMD card for the new monitor anyways to take advantage of FreeSync tech, because I was using a GTX 780.

So 29" 21:9 monitor and an RX 480 has set me back around £500...

To get a 34" monitor and GPU power to run it at the same frame rates on same settings would likely cost me £1100'ish.

£600+ for the monitor + 2 x RX 480's. One of them simply wont cut it for constant high frames at 3440 x 1440.

Makes sense guys, thanks for the feedback, I'm finding my self drawn to this monitor now. Time for some more research and spending an hour or two on YouTube

**Appreciate it's an older thread but think my question best fits here**

Recently joined the SuperWide fan club with my 29uc88 and (barring some issues with initial driver setup) I am very happy indeed with this new display!

The only thing I can't seem to grasp is how to enable the full resolution - specifically how to ensure my screen is running at 75Hz.

Now I've finally got the correct Radeon software & drivers installed {{MSI & Windows had a hissy fit on who should install the best drivers/apps/tweaks first for my new build...}} I seem to be sitting at only 60Hz.

I'm using a Display Port cable and have FreeSync enabled - is there anything particular that you folks had to do to enable the full 75Hz refresh rate?

Richy.

Since this thread has been resurrected anyway, I am thinking about getting a 29 inch myself and am deciding between that and a 27 inch 1440, advantages of 29 inch as I se it:
21:9 aspect ratio (I am intrigued to try it)
£100 cheaper than the 27 1440, assuming I go with the flat.
Less stress on my GTX970

But usually when the question is asked people always point to the 1440p, why did everyone here grab the 29 inch instead of 1440p?

Pretty much the same reasons you listed, not so much price though.

21.9 29" is just a lot more immersive/cinematic than a 27" 16.9 display imo.
