Well went in and bought the TV today along with the LG upscaling HDMI player..
Unfortunately I have to wait till next week before getting the TV :(

Problem is, if I get a dead pixel, and I return it, they'll give me a refund but I doubt they'll give me another TV without good reason! :(

I found 4 dead pixels on mine, Comet engineer came out had a look and now I am getting a replacement this Saturday.

Not sure if this is standard procedure but I am hoping the replacement is dead pixel'less :D

Pick up the TV tomorrow! Got the DVI player waiting here along with a Belkin HDMI cable, and i'll have my Xbox 360 ready too!

If it has any dead pixels I think it'll go straight back. Will try a second one, but after that i'll probably just wait :D

Let us know how you go on raider, really want one of these panels myself. Fingers crossed you dont get any dead pixels. Does anyone know what the failure rates are like regarding dead pixels, do many screens leave the factory with them??

Fancy this one myself......cannot find a local stockist at the moment though :(

Be waiting with interest to see how you find yours when you receive it. :)

Did you pay anything extra for cover/warrenty? i dont want dead pixels on mine and also thinking of going with the same place.. although arnt they a competitor?

i got the impression dead pixels were becoming fairly uncommon now with most pc monitors. Is this not the case with the lcd tvs? Im trying to decide between this LG and the Hyundai q321 atm..

I do have a domestic & general cover (5yr) on my LCD which I paid extra for, but I returned my new one within the 28day cooling off period.. a engineer had to be called out but soon as he saw the dead pixels he said Comet would replace it. I have a feeling the engineer was like a fish out of his water when he came out so I may of been lucky... I am not sure what the offical stand point is regarding dead pixels from Comet or LG, soz.

Competitor... Hmmm.. as far as I know they are'nt a competitor... I'm sure a Moderator would have put me right by now.

Ok got the TV :D

My first basic impressions:
1) PC - superb, especially with WMV HD
2) Xbox 360 - great, not the huge step up I was expecting though
3) DVD - Good with old Sony S725D through RGB, appalling with LG DVX9900H with HDMI, even when upscaled.

DVD is a big letdown with the upscaling player. Even at 720p or 1080i the quality is far lower than my 6 year old S725D. The new player seems to smooth over all detail, and at points it looks like i'm watching a dodgy Div-X file.

If I could pay £400 and get a player that could match my S725D, but through HDMI then i'd be pleased! :(

Try fiddling with the HDMI settings on the TV. Sometimes the factory settings are not great. You may find it more washed out.

Be very surprised if 6 year old DVD player was match for new upscaling one.

Even though it's 6 years old, it cost £550 at the time, and was effectively Hi-fi spec. A £100 player these days should come close.. but it doesn't!

Ok well bought a Denon 1920 today..

Picture is a LOT better through HDMI. LG was just a bag of pants in comparison.
However.. I now have sparklies on the TV if I upscale the image! 480/576p is fine. But 720p and 1080i cause problems.

I think this is due to the HDMI connector on the LG having a few problems. I'm trying to source a cable now so I can connect the Denon via the DVI connector on the LG.

Argg... it never ends :(

EDIT: On a separate note.. Is it possible to connect the PC via the HDMI socket? Will that work ok? That way I can have the Denon in the DVI, and the PC in the HDMI...

Update!

Went back to the store where I bought the TV / DVD / HDMI cable and returned the awful LG HDMI player along with the HDMI-HDMI cable.

Swapped the cable for a DVI-HDMI cable which I'm now using to connect the Denon 1920 to the TV's DVI socket. No sparklies now! Nice crisp 1080i image from the player.

So as I said, hopefully I can now use the HDMI socket for PC connection. :D

My replacement turned up but after further examination I found two dead pixels one above each other making them even more apprant from a distance :( , pretty sure I saw another one as well.. man this is turning into a nightmare...

I think my local store is going to have to find me one without any dead pixels or I am going to look at another make\model :(

Anyone care to offer some advise on this?

man mine has been perfect. I do need some advise on setting it up with the PC with a radeon 9800pro, as some movies, I get a bit of delay at times, especially animation films.

Ok I set up my LCD next to my CRT and did a comparison between HD and non-HD. The HD difference is now quite obvious!

Think i'm still keeping the set. Just going to take a while to get all the settings right.

What settings are people using here for Xbox 360 through component?
