LG 38GL950G - 3840x1600/G-Sync/144Hz

Hey, thanks for the heads up! I don't have a costco card so I ordered the business version of this one at provantage: https://www.provantage.com/lg-electronics-38gn95b~7LGEL0NC.htm. Only 95$ more than the costco deal but is the exact same display and comes with 3 years warranty (vs 1) and just has some different power consumption related default settings that can be changed from the OSD.

I'm well past my return period and willing to cut the plastic shroud or metal cage. Which direction would you have your noctua array blowing from?

I'd probably approach it as described here: https://imgur.com/a/bfFtiUg. Be careful that this is all pure theory, I never went deep into this approach as I didn't want to go cutting.

EDIT: added a third pic showing the wiring of a 2 fan setup. If possible I'd go with 3 to make sure you have enough airflow.

Thanks for the extra photos. I think I'll try something like this. Do you have plans for those fans+connector? ;)

Debating pairing this or another ultrawide - probably the Alienware 34 inch or LG 34 inch, pairing it with a 3080. G9 problems scare me a bit too much to be honest. Do we know if this monitor supports dlss? I gather Dlss 2.0 supports 21:9, but the term 21:9 is used to cover a lot of monitors that aren’t exactly 21:9. I don’t know if dlss is a dealbreaker or not, but it does feel like it’s about to become a lot more commonly implemented in games.

Thank you for doing all the research and detailed photos, much appreciated.

How is the heatsink mounted to the gsync board? There are some empty screw holes visible in your picture, is this it? Also - I think it was on Acer or Asus monitors, the screws holding the fan were too long, protruding from the other side and lifting the heatsink over gsync chip, I wonder if LG may have screwed this up as well.

EDIT - in the pictures it looks like you had two separate 75mm fans, both are described as 75mm GA81S2U but one is acrylic, kind of semi-transparent and the other one is solid black. What was the other one?

Also wondering this, maybe they have another model ~75mm fan to try but forgot to label.

Hell,

I got the monitor today and I defiitely can hear a bit the fan, it's a little high pitch sound
It's not loud but still audible : https://youtu.be/qrDOfqcLbeQ
I was wondering if it's normal and if there is a way to disable it somehow.

Should I send it back and maybe go with the GN? Is there any perks of getting GL instead of GN?

Thanks

Read the last few pages of comments, we're discussing how to modify the monitor to overcome this fan. If you're still within the return window consider returning and getting the 38GN, if you're in the US then you can still get the GN for $1400 from costco

I think the only thing difference is gsync activating above 48 fps or something like this? I rarely drop at that ki d of fps so I guess it will be the same thing

I've ordered a GN one and will send this back when I get the GN, i can send it back untill october 7th
Post your thoughts on how the gaming performance (smoothness) compares between the two, since you will be having them side by side, basically. Thanks. Try some demanding games that may tank your fps below 50...
