LG 38GL950G - 3840x1600/G-Sync/144Hz

For those keeping track - I actually went a picked up a fourth because I am a glutton for punishment. I ordered it somewhere I could collect as opposed to get delivered (after seeing my third be picked up and thrown very hard by the courier that has been delivering them all) this one is fine
Wow, congrats! You definitely don't hear a hissing sound from the back of the monitor?

Got mine yesterday. Just got it setup and playing with the settings now. So far so good. Gonna see how it goes over the next few days and report back on any issues like fan noise.

So far so good..... during normal office use I can't hear anything, my PC exhaust fan seems to be louder. During gaming the fan does get a little louder but I still can't hear it unless I put my head to the top of the screen. Will continue to observe over the next week to see if it changes. I'm wondering if all these problems are just manufacturing defects or low quality fans which develop issues over time.

2080ti is managing to run most things are decent refresh rates. Ultrawide is.... rather amazing.

My only issue right now is the clarity of text which is giving me a bit of eye strain, I need to play with the settings and work out what is causing it.

My monitor has been used for 671hrs and not once have I had any of these issues.

Must be bad batches made during the pandemic, so seems like the lack of quality control.

Be interesting to see what was the date of manufacture and Rev no?
For ref mine is Rev00 (01 2020)

Mine was manufactured May/2020 - No signs of issues from the 2 days I've been using it.

So it sounds like a combination of :

* Actual manufacturing differences causing different levels of noise from fan/coil whine
* People being more or less sensitive to fan noise/coil whine. (Some people hear it a mile off, others don't hear a damn thing)

Either way, I think having had a decent example delivered to my door, people shouldn't be so worried as long as they buy from a reputable company who will honour the return and replacement for a decent working screen.

I've been wondering about whether the noise from my particular unit is coil whine or fan hissing. The reason I think it's fan hissing is:

1) This is my 3rd unit with the same noise
2) I bought 2 identical replacement gsync fans thanks to someone's teardown and advice on this thread and those fans made the same hissing noise when spun; I didn't actually instead and reassemble monitor because it felt like such an "ah-hah" moment as soon as I spun them and heard the hiss.
3) For 30-60 minutes after I shut off my PC I continue to hear the hissing from the monitor. Even if the monitor isn't powered off all the input to the monitor has stopped so there isn't any processing going on, right? Noise should stop if it were coil whine.

For me if I was just gaming I could have put up with it but I work from home and use the monitor for work in silent environment. The pc is fully water cooled with a custom loop with low noise /rpm and few large rads so the monitor noise just stuck out too much for me. Ordered a GN today as seems as good other than the sync doesn’t work at low FPS.

Same situation here: fine for gaming, annoying during quiet WFH especially considering buff watercooled PC optimized for quiet. Also ordered a GN but arrived with dirt smudge under screen so returned that and kept the most recent GL.

For those that may not be aware, the GL model here has Gsync Ulitmate (so there is a Gsync chip inside the monitor, which gives you VRR from 1fps up to 175fps)
The GN model is Gsync compatible (This monitor does not have a Gsync module inside the monitor, so you are therefore restricted to a VRR of 48fps - 160fps)

Both monitors are compatible with freesync.
