Licensing fees, not sure what it costs per TV, but if they can save money..

Problem is if you have a soundbar that only has ARC/E-ARC input, and no HDMI inputs (passthrough) you are screwed, as that means you can't even add a dedicated streamer say Nvidia shield Pro to go Source---->Soundbar---->TV. At least with AVR it doesn't matter even if the TV has no sound output at all (say a monitor or projector) you go source--->AVR--->Projector.

Just limits options, for example my C9 supports DTS, but if I bought a new TV which didn't support DTS and I had soundbar with E-ARC I'd be pretty annoyed why I'm only getting two channel PCM for any any DTS material (DVD/BD/TV apps)

Presumably they hope you will buy an LG soundbar with many inputs. But scummy behaviour.

Glad I bought a G4 which as best I can tell is basically as good as the G5.

The thing when buying a new TV, when the new gen comes out the previous gen is usually a lot cheaper and the difference in price for small gains is not worth it to most people. Aka diminishing returns.

Another benefit of AVR's- even budget models 's have good IO, 7 HDMI inputs, 1 HDMI out (with EARC)

Before HDMI came out you could seperate input/output switching of video and video for example sending audio to the AVR, then send video directly to the device, to a scaler/switchbox. You can only that with now with devices with dual HDMI out (panasonic 820 etc) or you drop down to coaxial/optical (therefore only get standard DD/DTS) So even if your AVR was obselete when it came to video (like my Yamaha it only had S-Video) you could use component, or SCART-SCART RGB

In general most yearly tv release is ever worth the upgrade. A TV is not something the vast majority change every year. Someone that buys a C6/G6 after owning perhaps a 5-6yo tv or even longer is going to appreciate the improvements.

Ive a CX that doesn't have DTS, not really a big deal for me, did they add it back at some point and the remove it again in the g6 then, that sucks, I guess its all about cost saving.
 
Yes they added DTS back and removed after it the 4 series...

Went form a C9 to M4. 55 to 65... Picture quality is smidgen better but the stand out is the increase in screen size and anti reflective coating. Bigger size trumps all.

If I went same size upgrade OLED to OLED... it'll be like uber meh.

Here's a quandary that I had for a while:

Keep the same screen size but change from meh level LED tech to OLED or
Keep with meh level LED tech but move up a screen size

You can't choose both lol
 
Do LG OLEDs still do the thing where they auto dim when there are certain dark scenes on display? I forget what this is called but It definitely existed on my old C6 (or 7?) and also noticed on a newer CX. Was particularly noticeable in Gaming. iirc it was built in and could not be disabled via the normal menus.

Did this on my C9. No longer does it on the M4.

I went from a CX to a S95b and the QD OLED was a huge jump in quality. Just the vibrancy of colours without looking saturated.

Not sure if the latest WOLEDs can achieve the same colour volume but if not, I couldn’t go back.

So are you now saying it does still happen on your newer TV, or is that quote from older models?

I turned this off on my CX but had to use a service remote to do it. The dimming in dark scenes was really obvious and I’m a lot happier with it off.

I'd have to see this to believe it. For now the last 5 years of OLED PQ levels are so high that any extra is just a bonus for me.

I need the motion handling fixed.

I've been using the LG motion, setting 2 for both, I think it's fine. No soap opera effect, no juddering. Been watching the Expanse and things like spaceship panning is smooth but doesn't have the sped up effect (when you put in smooth mode which is worst case scenario)
