LG G5

Well it seems JL have a new promotion on that is heavily discounting the G5 currently with a lovely 20% off plus £300 cash back from LG ... 20% off takes the 77" from £4500 to £3600 , considering i laid out £4500 just 9 days ago I am less than pleased! so have been on the phone to them about a refund of £900 which is what the discount code gives , the lady said as its a promotion price i have to speak with a specific team which don't open till tomorrow but will be speaking with them first thing and if they can't/ won't do anything about the price i will then return the TV for a full refund and buy it again under the new discount price... certainly wasn't expecting it to get so heavily discounted this early
I have been phoning LG over the weeks to get my £400 promotion cash back from there website I buy it on 19th May from LG store, with the first promotion date to claim it I sent in two emails and showing when I buy it and where and the promotion email, I got a reply saying I'm not eligible to take part in this 21st May promotion! I'm sure the LG head office idols can't read the date of sale and email promotion is 19th with the order number that I have, so have to phone them again tomorrow this have been going on too long fighting them and there email replies are like repeat bot saying the same thing not eligible May 21st yesterday email?

Nightmare.

Yeah sounds like you need to get on the phone to them to sort this one out .. I initially had £500 cashback which was accepted but then had to cancel as I returned that set ... new set came with £300 cashback instead which i have claimed again and been accepted but now have to wait 60 - 90 days for it to arrive in the bank . No reason why yours should get rejected as you are well within the time frame to claim .

RTINGS have updated their review of the G5 after the recent Firmware update and now class it as almost flawless ... HDR10 is fixed in film maker mode ( game mode etc still needs some work ) and they have retested the input lag at 165hz and have confirmed that's now also fixed at 4ms rather than 12ms :D

Yesterday morning. First they email me saying you need to reapply to the 9th April to 20th May promotion but that have ended thick or what! So had to phone them they sent me a link by email I add everything in and got another claim number, later on I got text message Good News your claim has now been approved 60 days cash back also an email. I just can't believe it do they know from the left to right hands because they can't read the dates that's for sure. I'm glad you got yours too.

All the panic is over now! Just enjoy until the next update

And STILL only a 100mb ethernet port. This is literally putting off buying a TV, all for the $1 more it would cose them to manufacture these with a gigabit port

ps: And no DTS support isn't a good move for me as I use the TV as the central hub for everything, so if I want DTS media from Plex I guess without using an amp or soundbar, a lot of my library now wouldn't play

Unfortunately you're talking about a million dollars because about 300 people would actually use over 100Mbps, and the other million customers are on WiFi.

I've never seen a TV with a gigabit port. You can just plug a USB one in if you're desperate. The WiFi is often faster anyway these days, which feels weird.

It's WiFi 6 now right?

I bet if you get a usb to 1000mb adapter then you can make the tv 1000mb through the usb port

When I tried that on my old LG Oled, the YouTube casting feature from my phone to the TV stopped working, as if the TV no longer realised it had internet access. I wonder if the G5 suffers from this, or it's clever enough to use a USB Lan adapter seemlessly.

Anyhoo, I can't buy a G5 considering it can't pass through DTS, would mean a lot of my Plex library would no longer work :(

would have thought you be running a AVR with some other box if you are running a plex setup

Running TV --> Arc --> Amp

Perfect setup for me where TV is the source of everything, and I just turn on the amp if/when I want it.

With ARC you only get DTS/DD 5.1. No HD codecs, no DTS, No Atmos. Also E-ARC offers improved lip sync etc
True. We're talking about an 8yr old TV. But it suits my needs fine at the moment.

If I were to upgrade my TV I'd potentially upgrade what's then at the end of the eArc connection.

BUT I'd want a tv that could process/pass through as much as possible including DTS. The G5 can't

Just got a G5 55" and delighted with it so far. No image issues and think I have everything set to how I like. I'm running the apps on the TV but someone mentioned running them through the Xbox or PS5 gives better image quality? Also any image tips I should know?

Also now I have eArc my Sonos system can run as Dolby Atmos but to be honest I can't hear much difference.

Think I'm right in saying that sometimes running certain apps separately may yield better audio as built in iPlayer and what not just use pcm. Whereas you'll notice Netflix etc will give Dolby digital and whatnot. Not heard about getting better IQ though.

Generally need a good audio system to notice the difference. Mines a av pre power 9.3.4.

On my system I can the difference between 5.1 DD and DTS 5.1 and there is an improvement on lossless HD audio, but I don't think most people would notice that gap. The difference between DD and DTS 5.1 would be noticeable though on lower end gear.

So you've not got a device pushing DTS into your G5? eg: A DVD/Bluray player?
