Lian Li A70B Review - BRAND NEW

It is indeed only 2 cm narrower than the eclipse wow it looks a lot thinner when you look at it.This is definitely my next case if the price is right remember the tj09 is around £150 now.Does one need to take the side panels off to access the front filters ?.My next case has to have ample room for future heatsinks you said the 120 extreme was a tight fit this alarms me a bit can you expand on that? it's almost touching the top support bar ?.

Hi C64,

The side panels can remain in place as the front panel is held on by spring loaded clips. You simply pull the front panel and it pops off. Then the filters are available for a quick hoover. Barely a 30 second job.

The heatsink issue was only down to it interfering with the top of the motherboard tray mounting area. As you install it, the motherboard and the motherbaord tray all at once it got very close to the upper edge of the case. The thermalright is one of the larger heastsinks too so there really is nothing to worry about.

If i had not been able to fit it all at once i would have quite happily either fitted the heatsink with the mobo was in the case or fitted the heatsink to the mobo while it was out of the case but minus the removable motherboard tray. The case is so large that a standard install minus the motherboard tray is completely painless! :)

Does look rather special that case, excellent cooling and well thought out. But Antec 182 still my next case, they just jam pack the case with so many features like cable managment/hdd grommets as silencers/noise dampening panels etc etc

I wish sometimes Lian Li went feature or silence mad with there cases sometimes ;)

I think they saw the TJ09/10 series and fixed the issue of internal 120mm cooling fan on the inside quite nicely, but then surely one is just blowing hot hdd air onto your GTX !:)

Either way Lian li cant be touched in sheer quality

So far this looks to be the only thing i'd ever consider replacing my eclipse for, but then thats because it just seems like a better versions of a PC-7II....not that id replace my eclipse for a while :P But from the looks of this thing id defiantly buy one

Thanks for all the replies - i can see it's gonna be a very popular case.

Lian Li have just told me that there is not a rrp yet as it will not be on the market until the end of November. Just in time for Christmas!!! ;)

Also, i've added a picture and link in the main review - it's from the Lian Li site and shows the optional top panel for all you water cooling nuts out there. Looks to be a very tidy item and a must have for those of us who couldn't pluck up the courage to cut the holes ourselves! :D

Finally, if anyone has any more questions or would like certain specific pictures of the case posted then feel free to ask. :)

yeah, i'm soo tempted to mod mine to fit a 120.3......... they sell a 120.2 (well, its listed on their site) but i'm not sure it'd be fitted for any particular rads.

Mine should come tomorrow, so i'll get some pics up when it comes!

OK, that build took me flipping ages...... decided to do some decent cable routing for a change, and this is the result:
Outside

Inside

Very nice case, the HDD bays are actually completely removable with screws....... so someone could probably put some serious cooling there if they wanted to..... space for a phase change maybe? Top has space for a 120.3, but i think you'ld have to sacrifice the top drive bay or two.

Good cooling too. :)

Hopefully the cable routing is good enough for the pedants out there.... ideally i'd want another 8 pin extension to get that cable more out of the way, but otherwise i cant see more that i can do short of cutting holes in the mobo tray.

very nice.... had a fiddle a night ago, and pulled the entire HDD rack out from the bottom section.... there is SO much space in this rig that it's unreal! Put some Lian-Li wheels on too that i had origianly planned for my PC-A10 but i could never get to fit....

Its insane the number of reinfoced screw holes there are on the bottom of this case! you have 3 positions you can put the HDD rack in horizontaly, the holes for the ATX card support'fan mount, the holes for the card bridge thing, AND another load on the bottom too...... this case must be a moder's dream with so many easily removable bits without the bother of drilling out rivets, i wonder if we will end up with a Lian-Li case being able to be totaly taken apart, no rivets at all?

Very tempted to get some tin snips to improve the internal airflow..... the HDD bays could have much improved air throughput for starters.

I'm really having to fight the temptation to put £200 into a decent CPU watercooling setup...... prob northbridge too as my DFI ICFX 3200 is back from RMA soon. I recon a Laing 18W (prob with Alphacool top) and a PA120.3 on the top would go very nicely, has anyone ever tried screwing the pump outlet straight into the rad inlet with a male/male G-1/4"? I recon i have enough space for the pump either in the second PSU slot or in the 5 1/4" bays..... if i put it in the second PSU spot i could have the smallest loop ever- Pump->rad->CPU->NB->pump in the space of 20cm or less...... With space in the bottom for a 120.2 for a GFX loop.....

ah the posibilities.....

Sweet! Sound like some mighty impressive plans there Simon.

All the best of luck with it... just make sure to keep us all posted! :)

A Nice, well written review GT.
Cheers for the kind words matey! Much appreciated!!! :D

++ the mesh front pleases me more than these, with the addition of the EX33 for the full Mac Pro look-a-like.
Agreed... there's no doubt the v1000 + v2000 cases are BEAUTIFUL!!! :)

Is the whole Hard drive assembly removeable? With the 2nd set of fans too?

If so i think i'm getting one of these with the 120.2 top :)
