I have said to my wife that I could take a better photograph of my baby daughter than the ones that she has paid for but am having some trouble with lighting.

As I am poor with a new baby could anyone recommend a good way of getting rid of shadows with just around the house lighting?

Its too wet and cold to take pictures out side. :D

Lighting tips in general would be nice or somewhere to read about them.

I am only armed with a cannon 350D

Thanks

put the camera in Av, have a well lit situation (enough to take a photo) and pop-out the on-board flash, which the camera will program as a fill flash :)

It sounds like you've over promised and are going to under deliver ;)

Anyway, soft light is the best light for portraits. Bounce the light off walls, celings, through paper etc

Wait for daylight, then use the natural light from a large window (Preferably north facing) with a piece of white paper/card acting as a reflector on the other side.

don't think that you need a flash to take successful shots. YOu should be able to take some exceelent shots using natural light. As MK says above, use window light, possibly with a net curtain or similar to act as a diffuser, and something to bounce light back to the "shadow" side.

I'm not sure how old your kiddie is, bit, be patient, take plenty of shots, and learn some skill in processing the results and you eill soon be able to produce shots that are wall mountable.
