Lightroom 2.0 Beta

There's an issue in the beta as well as the current live release in which if you try to cycle images in the editor too fast the application fails to render the next image, the overlay that says "loading..." just stays like that and fails to move on so you have to restart LR. I notice it more and more on 40D images (raw) but only a minor few times with 350d images. A friend also reports the same issue and he has a 5D whilst someone he knows has a Nikon D3 on MAC and has no problems so obviously Adobe need to work on something here.

The issue can be bypassed though by simply working on and previewing big only one image at a time, so basically click a thumbnail on the film reel at the bottom, let it fully load and render, do your work and recycle this motion for every image instead of how you may be used to in say ACR or Rawshooter essentials where you can click through random RAW images at any speed without issue!

Bah still no Linux support. I would have thought that given they have a MacOS release, the effort required to port to Linux would be minimal.

Do you mean Wine?

If so I think Adobe products have some problems running under Wine, was the case last I heard anyway. There was a whole story on Adobe trying to increase the amount of programs that run under it

I've been using LR now since September and it became an ever present part of my workflow. These days though I find it holds me back and I generally do all of the post processing in Photoshop. The print profiling is horrible too.

Does linux not have some sort of virtual machine setup that allows it to run windows based programs?

Sometimes wine/cedega will work, but they are generally quite a lot of faffing about, particularly with the installer unless the manufacturer has produced a wine specific package (like Google did with Picassa), and then they generally don't exploit the power of Linux. I doubt for example that the 64-bit extensions will work, and wine has a nasty habbit of going from working one day to broken the next with an automagic upgrade.

It just seems like they are missing out on a potential (albeit small) customer base. I'd pay the £160 if I knew I was getting a properly written 64-bit Linux app. Fortunately, Rawtherapee is making good roads towards a lightroom-esque free alternative (although optional donations are encouraged).

The various virtual machine technologies like VMWare/Xen require the installation of Windows, which is not something I'm inclined to do at the present time, the primary point of using Linux is to avoid the various problems which I regard Windows suffers from.

Take a look at the following videos which give you a good feel for what LR2 is all about...

I'm currently using PSE and had heard/read about LR but not used it. Having seen the videos I'm convinced LR is the way to go. Would like to see geo-referencing however on map.

One question I do have is regarding multiple machine use. if I have LR installed on both a desktop and laptop with the laptop being used while away for several days at a time, are you able to synchronise any changes to images and the database you make on the laptop with the desktop when you return home?
