Lightroom 3 Released

Been using it for a month now and I'm starting to get a bit annoyed with the speed sometimes. It seems to take ages to swap between library and develop compared to v2.7. It is also a lot slower starting up and importing photos I've found. The actual developing is a lot smoother though with much less lag between changes. How are other people finding it?

Have to agree with you there greedy. While development is much smoother, in all respects, and the de-noising is superior to v2.x, the Library manager is not as fast as I'd like with the number of images I have in there.

I also find the Print section a bit baffling. I can't seem to get it to do what I could in the previous version. But, tbh, that's probably due to my inherent distaste for my HP printer rather than the software!

I'd have to go with an overall positive feeling towards it though.

I've had it about a month too now and I hate it. Wish I'd never bothered. I don't use any of the (few) new features and it's definitely slower than LR2. It's also REALLY annoying how it doesn't remember to keep colour/flag/star filters on when switching between folders and starting up. The import menu is also too bloated and doesn't help me at all. Putting colour and ratings on photos is also laggy now and switching between them in develop takes longer.
On the plus side I think the start-up time is a bit quicker.

Out of interest how big are your libraries? Mine has ~75k images, half with colours+develop settings.

Anyone know how to convert a LR3 catalogue to LR2??

My Library is about 10k of mixed RAW and jpg files from various cameras. The quality of the preview thumbnails probably is a big factor on performance...

Out of interest, who uses 32bit and who uses 64bit?

I'm on 64bit and I'm not sure it really takes advantage of the additional memory available.

I do find scrolling through the library with the scroll wheel in the full version is much slower than it was in the beta. I initially thought this was just poor performance but I switched to using the arrow keys and I can scroll as fast as I like with no hold-ups.
I guess that must be a bug as it was fine in the beta version.

I use 64bit and loving it - dumping out 600 images after sorting is a joy on a quad-core, its exports 4 files at a time - much fast. The noise reduction and sharpening are miles better now as well - NR is as good or better than 3rd party NR porgrams (Noise Ninja, Neat image etc) - and its in realtime!! Flies on my rather modest OcUK PC with Win7 64bit.

Biggest problem so far was ordering the full version, I went for the boxed version (cheaper than download version by a few quid - go figure!) when I had 15 days left on my trial and it took 17 days for the package to arrive. I know I should have opted for the download version but when dropping £200+ quid on a piece of software its nice to get a physical product.
