I am using Windows Media Player to play AVI files. Are there any lighter, less resource intensive players out there?

One reason is that it plays AVI files when I first reboot my PC. But after a few days, as resources drop. it plays the AVI file so I get the audio but not the video. Grr!

Thanks,

Jon

Either VLC or MPClassic will be the tool for the job. There is very little to distinguish between the two, except VLC seems to get slightly more frequent updates.

I find that winamp classic is very good and "light", play games etc with it running in the background with no problem.

WMP is a bloated out peice of software, the whole idea of leightweight is they get rid of the crap you don't need and make it run better and less resouce consuming

I've just installed VLC and when I double click my AVI file, I get a message saying the avi file is broken and needs repairing. I clicked yes, it repaired it and voila, its working! :D

WMP never gave me such an option.
