Hi All,

New to the forum and after a little bit of help/advice if possible.

My 10 year old son is starting to loose him interest in his xbox and since both his sisters have laptops, he's starting to play games on his younger sisters via some portal or other. The games can't be that complex as the basic HP is only a notebook with AMD etc...

So... on to the dilemma:

We have agreed to choose a computer for him from ***elsewhere*** as we can access 12 months interest free and if bought before tomorrow night, will receive 10% cashback. I have looked at what i'd consider the best spec for the money and narrowed it down to 4 which are all Asus.

Each one seems to be to have some variation to the spec and a different price. I'm looking for value for money and hopefully not paying over the top any upgrades that won't make much difference. I have looked at the market and haven't found any of the model more than a few quid cheaper before the cashback.

The first is: (cheapest to dearest)

1 - Asus FX504GM-EN150T Intel® Core™ i7H Processor, 6Gb GeForce GTX 1060 Graphics, 8Gb RAM, 1Tb HDD & 256Gb SSD, 15.6 inch 120Hz Gaming Laptop. Previous Price: £1299 - Sale Price £950 - After Cashback £855

2 - Asus TUF FX504GM-EN366T Intel® Core™ i7H Processor, 6Gb GTX1060 Graphics, 16Gb RAM, 1Tb HDD + 256Gb, 15.6 inch 120Hz Gaming Laptop with Bag. Previous Price: £1399 - Sale Price £1100 - After Cashback £990

3 - Asus TUF Gaming FX705GM-EV101T Intel Core i7H, GeForce GTX1060 6GB, 16GB RAM, 1TB HDD & 256G SSD, 17.3 inch IPS 144Hz Gaming Laptop with Bag. Previous Price: £1499 - Sale Price £1149 - After Cashback £1035

4 - Asus ROG Strix GL703GS-EE071T Intel Core i7H, GeForce GTX1070 8GB, 16GB RAM, 1TB HDD & 256GB SSD, 17.3in IPS 120Hz Gaming Laptop. Previous Price: £1729 - Sale Price £1399 - After Cashback £1260

17.3" v 15.6" isn't an issue. Not too bothered on size.

In an ideal world we would like the 16gb ram, 1070 graphics and 144hz screen but I guess the question is whether its worth paying and extra £135 for 16gm ram as opposed to 8 (1 v 2).
3 is more expensive than 2 by £145 and seems to only have 144hz as opposed to 120hz and a 17.3 inch screen. I've read that the ROG series is a higher standard and carries a premium price. How good is 1070 v 1060. Will the other components be of a better quality than the TUF series. Has a 144Hz IPS have a noticeable diffrenece to a 120Hz.

Sorry, I only know the basic stuff and the more i seem to research, the more questions it raises.

Thanks in advance

Davey....

@pastymuncher - literally the second thread i opened gave me genuine LOLs (very rare). I particularly like the fact there's no gentle sparring - just straight for the carotid with a Chinese capacitor.

Thanks - needed that after the day i've had. :)

Unless I am being blind, the OP is asking for laptop recommendations?

The 1070 in the long term would be better, especially if you could ever get it hooked up to a TV or Monitor. I would check out the Dell Outlet, they are refurbs/returns/delivery rejections and you can sometimes pick up some great deals.
