Line stats

I removed the orange cable. The internet stayed disconnected until i put the bottom half of the master socket back on. What does the orange cable do?

It was a wire originally used for old fashioned phones that allowed them to ring, but as modern phones have an electric ringer, the wire is no longer required. What it does now is allows interference to come onto your phone line and potentially causes your broadband to slow down.

Could you try an alternative ADSL filter and ADSL cable if you have one?

Any reason why BT still connect it up then?

I decided to disconnect the filter plugged into our other phone socket which had phone and sky attached to it and it made the upstream spike to 97 dB again. Should removing a filter do this? The router didnt even get unplugged. The router was the only equipment plugged into a phone socket at the time.

I changed the microfilter and RJ11 cable to the router. Here are the stats

you now need to ring sky & get them to run dlm on your line or get them to manually reset your profile & this should give ypu nearer the 20mb hat your line should support. I do suggest getting a filtered faceplate & a shielded rj11 cable as this will also help.

After speaking to Sky my line can support 16Mb down and 796kbps Up. Apparently my upload should never have been set to 1.1Mb

I mentioned that I game more than download large files so they have enabled interleaving and lowered the download to 10.2Mb.

My line stats now:

I cant believe they have stuck interleaving on, they shouldve reduced your max delay to 8 thus lowering your ping. You should be getting a 30ish ping now but judging by your current stats they have got you back on DLM, With a 21db line attenuation you should be hitting nearer if not teh 20mb mark.

I've been having a few rants at sky myself and they dont appear to listen to what I was after, gamer profile is what I am on but its not working as my ping is 60 so as I'm on nights I will test my ping monday when I finally come off shift.

next time you ring asked them to manually set your line with interleaving max delay at 8 & increase your upload speed & download speed by reducing the snr. They will most likely get a senior member of teh team as most tier 1 techs dont know whaat to do.

Okay, what I would like you to do is "double-filter" your Sky box. Basically, connect an ADSL filter into the socket that connects your Sky box, and then connect another filter to that. Connect the Sky box to the last filter. Then, post your stats again.

It could also help changing all the filters on your phone line, just in case any have gone bad.

my pings playing BF3 briefly last night basically didnt move from 44-45

I put 2 filters on the socket that had the sky box / phone. I tested this on the sky router as well but it wouldn't connect with 2.

Can you plug into the test socket again please.

Are you trying to find out if there is an issue within my flat?

I spoke with Sky again and they agreed my line should support higher speeds. They have increased the upload and download. The support person i spoke to said interleaving wasnt enabled. My line in apparently very stable but they will monitor it over the next 24 hours.

My BF3 pings are down to 37 now.

The 2 support guys I have spoken 2 have got me to test the test socket first. Stats always seems to be very similar

Thanks for your help. I will see how this goes.

My ping during BF3 seems to have got worse again. Any thing between 70-120.

I'm currently using a Sagemcom F@ST2504n which was supplied by Sky. Are these any good or is it worth replacing? My line stats haven't changed.
