With many thanks to Shak
I have managed to get a caching utility working, "setimgr"
It seems to be doing the job at the moment, It has been a little tempermental with uploading wu's although it seems fine when downloading , although nothing a little prompting couldn't cure.

Anyway I was wondering if anyone else has used this programme , and if anyone knows of any other caching programmes for me to try out?

Cheers

[EDIT] and when uploading my test units I acidentaly stomped spesh ! [/EDIT]

If your using Suse V8.0, (I think you are) there is a ksetispy rpm ready for download, takes 5 mins to setup and cache's as many units as you want !

I have downloaded this and just need to setup the config file as I want it and i will give it a try , having only glanced at it I didn't see anything about caching. I will have a proper look in a minute though.
Yeah suse 8.0 ;)

I stopped running it on my linux machine (dont worry it's the same machine as my 2nd cruncher, so i leave it in windows).
Mainly due to the fact i couldn't work out how to make it auto bootup, and i was annoyed with winvnc how i couldn't make it view the currently logged on desktop rarther than having a new login session which is what i didn't want, any suggestions? :).

I have just downloaded the full setup and install distructions. I will set this up tomorow and spend some time getting to grips with it. (Newbie)

I will let you know what i think of it in a few days. I got to say it seem to be a lot more visualy apealing and has got a lot more options. So far i'm not that taken with setimgr , especialy as it seems to like running 4 instances of seti when i only have 2 processors (I have checked that it is set to 2, and it only does it now and again)

@Dezyboy - Yeah that would be good, just i've heard that Linux crunches seti a lot faster and i also like the thing more :).

@Shak - That sounds good, any chance of lending me a copy too, or just something to make it load up when i log in and start crunching, preferably with verbose on so i can see if its still going ;).

And do you know how to sort out VNC, or something that will let me control the currently logged in user? thx.

Ok so the script needs to start SETI on startup and then kill any extra processes. Ok, Ill get it done when I have time (some time next year (j/k))

VNC is easy, just run it how you did before, download, compile, and then run vncserver and it will be connectable.

That script would be sooooooo

I just got back from work to find it crunching 4 wu's , I wouldn't mind but it looks like i'm losing 4 wu's a day because of it !

Sorry i have it running, and changed it from it's horrible default window manger to KDE, but when you log in with VNC you don't see how you would on a windows machine- ie you see the monitor display of that PC, instead you're logged in like another user.

If you get me :).

Yeah its the nature of Unix, basically you connect to the X-server as another user remotely. The *nixes have had this capability for a long time, and is one of their strengths.

Yeah i understand that it's a good thing but I like to vnc into a machine and finish something i was doing earlier, then leave, then maybe go upstairs and actually be on the machine where i left off.

Oh well.

What do you do with VNC on that machine? I personally dont use VNC any more, I use SSH to monitor, as the daemon running is better, and I use the text output.

I also have a cron job that runs

Code:
cat /home/shak/seti/seti1/state.sah > file.file
cat /home/shak/seti/seti2/state.sah > file2.file

Then I can just look for these.

On my webserver though, Ive hacked the interface so it has the SETI progress on it

I know mate, it happens, I dont know what it is, but my PC loses a bit of time every so often.

If anyone else wants the source code for that lot to play with just mail me and we can sort it out.

It is a hacked version of PHPSystem.

Guess what...........
Yeah I got another problem !

I have just installed ksetispy
./configure
make
make install (In root)
when I start up ksetispy all the options on the left hand side are greyed out with no icons ! It will let me put in my profile and i does keep track of the wu progress , but wont let me use any of the options.

Any ideas anyone ?
