Linux Mint 9 RC released

Thanks for the heads up.

Just tried the liveCD and really enjoyed using it, couldn't get my HTC Desire to mount as a disk drive though :(

as someone who uses Linux in a working environment (Computer Forensics y'see) i have to say that Mints (well, Ubuntus') insistence that i can't login as root by default is very irritating.

The reasons for this are well documented, but if you work with Linux in computer forensics, surely typing "sudo passwd root" into a terminal can't be that much of a challenge?

min req says 512 MB ram? thought it was ok with 128 before?

I think it was 256MB, but it will still probably work with lower. You just wouldn't necessarily want to, since it's not meant to be a distro aimed at old, lower specced machines. It's a fully featured distro to compete with the likes of Ubuntu and OpenSUSE.

carp. anyone got a recc distro for 256MB machines that has most or all of the features that mint has?
