Linux on a Macbook Pro?

I need to be able to run a Linux program on my Macbook Pro. I've tried with a VM but the function keys don't really work very well that way and so I think I might be better off doing it by booting natively into Linux. I think Ubuntu will probably do the job.

So - Is this possible? Can I effectively Bootcamp into Linux? I know I'll only be using Bootcamp to create the partition but is it possible to do what I want, install Ubuntu natively on my Macbook Pro?

How about booting in to a "Live CD" and running it from there? It for constant use or more one-off?

What program is it? I've run quite a few Linux apps natively on my Macs so maybe that could be an option? :)

I'm by no means certain, but it looks like you might be able to build and run that on OS X as long as you have the Developer tools installed - the ones included on the OS X DVD. I'd probably try and give it a go if you're fairly comfortable with command line stuff :)

See here under the 'Installation from source code' section.

Well I managed to install it easily enough but I'm still getting the function key issues so it looks as though I'm going to have to blag an old laptop from work to do what I want to do. Shame :(

Out of interest what's the program for? As much as I can glean from the website (that resizes my window ) is that it helps with amateur radio competitions?

You're right, it's a contest logger. And yes, the window resizing is frustrating!
