Linx 10.1 inch Windows 8 Tablet - Any good?

How much of the 32GB do you have available, I've not installed anything, just a few windows updates and mine says 17GB of 24GB available, sound right ?

Mine had about that as well, drops to about 15GB when you update windows :(

Just put a 64GB Samsung Micro SD card in so basically another hard drive :)

Phoned stoke staples up this morning and reserved a few.

Went down there and an old couple was looking at the 10". Very keen on it, but the guy said it was out of stock. I hung around while he phoned a few stores, and said sorry, there are no more we can get here. They looked at the 8" but it was too small for the old ladies eyes.

Christmas spirit came to me and I interrupted and said I'd reserved a 10" and 2 x 8". He said yes there here, so I offered to give the couple the 10" I'd reserved. And I walked away with the 2x 8". I already have the 10" with keyboard, bought from Argos a couple weeks back.

I've bought my kid a hudl for Christmas, that's going back and he can have one of these.

When you have done all the system updates try running disk cleanup as it can remove unneeded update files

Just got the Linx 10 myself, was 4 left when i phoned and they wouldn't reserve so i had a 16 mile journey to Hove and luckily they had 2 left. Therefore half an hour or so ago they had 1 left at Hove.

The next burning question is has anyone managed to dual boot this with Android being the other option.

Not tried that, but I'm going to stick Virtualbox on mine and run Ubuntu within that.

Seems like this might be the way to go once it's released.

http://consoleos.com/

Might be a slight snag on that at the moment as I'm suspecting it only has a 32bit UEFI bios since others have failed to install 64bit W8.1. Might have to keep fingers crossed that LINX release a 64bit bios. The processor seems to be a 64bit model though so almost there it seems on the requirements for Console OS.

Can somebody with the Linx 10 with keyboard help me out here, please? I'd like it if somebody could please explain how the keyboard/case is used. I'm getting very confused by the 'oragami' feature... What does that add?

Can the device, when in the case, be used like a normal laptop on your lap or does the oragami part have to be used to balance the display?

If not, then what's the point of the oragami?

Can the oragami be attached to the tablet *without* the keyboard so that it can be used as a stand to watch movies, for example?

I've picked up a 10" for £89.99 and have a 7" that I can use for cashback but the main reason for the purchase is the ability to add the keyboard dock (will make remote desktop into the office for the odd email perfect) however I'm not sure how it works and I don't want to open the Linx 10 box until I know how the case works in case I need to return the device.

Thank you!

The origami feature is just the back half of the case which folds a certain way to provide a support for the tablet at a set angle. I think the case consists of the origami part as the back half and the keyboard is attached to the front half. From what I read of someone else's post you might want to keep the screen protector on if you're going to add the case as the protector would stop the top of the keys coming into direct contact with the screen when you close the case. I don't think the keyboard comes off of the case as the dock port is located behind the keyboard in the fold area between the two sides.

You don't have to opt for the LINX case though, the tablet has Bluetooth so you could use some other Bluetooth keyboard and a separate case which is just a case. This might have a number of advantages, such as, choosing a case with more possible viewing angles to fold it into. A different Bluetooth keyboard may have better, more responsive keys and maybe a preferable track pad with buttons.

I've found this YouTube video which answers a few of my questions:

Clearly the oragami stand is built into the keyboard and can only be used in oragami mode... Fine.

Still not sure why you need it though - Can I assume that the 'hinge' between the tablet and keyboard is not strong enough to hold the display in place, though? Is that why the oragami case is needed? If so this is a deal breaker for me... I was hoping I could use the device on my lap much in the same way I do my laptop.

The Asus T100 and Acer Switch both have a good hinge and don't require the oragami stand and I was hoping this would be the same but not sure. Can somebody with it please confirm?

Thank you.

There is no hinge, its just the keyboard attached to a cover, the hinge if you want to call it that is just the fold in the material that the cover is made out of and hence the origami style support. Therefore it lacks the same range of angles that a laptop would have as that would have a typically hinged display as it would be permanently attached. Therefore the only way you could get something similar to a laptop arrangement would be to shop around for an alternative cover, keyboard and use it on a tabletop surface for typing on a physical keyboard.

Grr. The Asus and Acer equivalent models manage it... The tablet half connects to a proper hinge and when connected functions exactly the same as a laptop with a 'permanently attached' keyboard would do.

I guess this is another tablet that'll be going back to the shop! Being able to use the tablet (with keyboard) on my lap is a must-have feature.

At least you haven't opened it and can return it.

Been doing a bit more digging around for info.

According to someone on the edugeek.net forum, it seems this tablet is a rebadged Schenker Element, a German company which also makes high end laptops through their subdivision 'XMG' which some may be more familiar with.

http://www.edugeek.net/forums/gener...linx-tablet-viable-alternative-netbook-2.html

Might be useful to know as a search on Google for Schenker Element will reveal that company's website which has support for that model such as various drivers etc.

Any ideas ona good docking station for this? Just something small and simple that will hook it up to keyboard/mouse/monitor and ethernet?
