Bloody hell. Was the other driver prosecuted or anything?

Nope, nothing was being done for Driving without due care, but the CPS in their wisdom dropped the charges.
The other driver broke an arm and that was it.

But at least I have a few self tappers if needed in an emergency.:D

None. Been riding for 19 years (with a 5 year break though) and driving for 18.

Viewing this thread its no wonder insurance is so high!

Er, thats why I said driving for 18 years.

Haven't done much mileage in the last few years as I'm self employed and only have to walk 100 yards to the office. Previously I've done big mileages though, including a couple of years of about 50k miles a year ploughing up and down the country installing software.

Currently only do about 4k in the car and about 8k a year on the bike.

Wet night in November 2002 driving along a dual carraigeway on my Suzuki TS125 at about 50mph. As I approach a petrol station on the left I look to see no traffic emerging so continue. Next thing I know when about 30 yards from the junction, a Ford Fiesta shoots out in front of me and stops right in my path. By the time I had grabbed the brakes it was too late. I stood up on the pegs, banged into the side of the car and was luckily thrown over the top of the car and on down the road. The bike came too but landed just short of me on top of my legs.
I vaguely recall someone pulling the bike off me and dragging me off the road. It was a good mate of mine who races bikes. Whilst I was lying at the side of the road trying to figure out if I was dead or still had all my limbs, the silly cow in the Ford Fiesta that pulled out in front of me tried to drive off. Luckily my mate who dragged me from the road was standing beside her door and reached into the car to stop her, cutting his arm on the broken glass. He succeeded. She was drunk. Before the police arrive she makes another break for the car and manages to get away. All this while I'm lying in a heap at the side of the road with a crowd of people round me saying "He's dead" over and over.
The result was that the police went to her house to pick her up but couldn't do her for drink driving as she claimed to have taken a drink when she got in to help with the shock. She still got prosecuted for leaving the scene of the accident and careless driving and received a miniscule ban, I think it was 30 or 45 days. Can't remember.

I seen her about 2 years later in an off licence of all places.

The result was a written off bike, muscle damage in my lower back, bruising over the entire length of my body, some road rash and my right kneecap bone ended up around the side of my leg. I was pretty lucky. The worst of the damage was the mental damage though. People sometimes talk about having dreams after accidents to get more money but I'm still haunted by the same nightmare where I'm lying at the side of the road with all those bystanders looking down at me saying "He's dead". It scares the crap out of me every time.

Driving along in my Ford Escort and a car is parked at the side of the road opposite a junction. He was indicating left as you do when you pull in to the side of the road. I approached, had a look and nothing else was on the road. As I overtook he swung his car into a U turn straight into my front side.
He drove off so I followed him to his house. I phoned the police who came and took statements. The result was that they believed his statement over mine and prosecuted me for careless driving. He claimed he was in the middle of the road indicating to turn into the junction even though he was actually pulled into the left of the road, parked and indicating left.

Result was a conviction by the police for driving without due care and attention. 4 points and £200 fine.

Sitting at a pedestrian crossing in my Passat with red lights. A guy behind wasn't watching the road. I hear a screech then a bang as he slid into the back of me. It was relatively low speed and the guy admitted liability on the spot. Pretty simple really.

None.

Driving since '94.

Expect a "Totalled mine and several other cars last night" thread tomorrow... :D

Ex-girlfriend grabbed the wheel of rental car whilst on dual-carriageway at 3am, trying to force the car into the central barrier. I tried to regain control, ended up in a spin and the rear left wheel ended up completely buckled as the back of the car hit the barrier. Her water bottle had also travelled around the car all the way to under my pedals, making it difficult to apply the brakes.

Luckily it was so late at night and there was nothing around. Could have died that night. :(

Sounds horrible mate. I still feel very funny because my only memory of being in the car and the hospital during the 90mph crash is seeing myself in the car, from up above. Very weird. Like an out of body experience. And then I remember someone saying, 'he is heavily concussed and we are concerned about internal organ damage.'

Apparently I just kept repeating over and over again, 'I can move my legs, thats a good sign isnt it?' lol Always got my thinking hat on!

Although for me, the worst psychological part was being hit by the drunks. Al saw were two giant lights coming toward me and thinking, this is the end. Only to come out the other side alive. very weird.

Oct 06 - rear ended a car in stop start traffic on a motorway while trying to change lanes, stupid mistake ~£1k damage and an open claim thats only just been closed because the other driver "had a sore neck" for a <15mph crash:mad:

Jun 06 - reversed the g/fs car into someone in a carpark, they were pulling out of a space at the same time as me and i didn't see them

sometime around '98 managed to pop in a wheel arch of mum's 206 reverse parking, left a note on the other car and paid ~£100 for the panel to be pulled out. No contact by the 3rd party (tbh it didn't do any damage to the other car)

Crash one:

R19 16v Hatchback, overtaking a mate on a bend coming up to a roundabout at night with great visibility of road... straighten up coming onto roundabout entrance when I go to lose some speed only to find the M-C packed up and brake peddle hit floor. Tried to pump it... nothing.. handbrake.. not a lot.. then smack into pavement hitting it with O/S front wheel (speed unknown guess 30-40mph), car jumps up and slams down on gravel and travels further 40 feet before coming to rest just inches infront of a lamp post.

Damage was to be expected, snapped strut and bone, wheel flapping out at an odd angle and set well back in the wheel arch.. I ended up losing the entire car plus tools but that’s another story!

Crash Two:

Smacked into the side of a Toyota Chamery or whatever they are called, he was in right of way but the white lines on the road were missing and I never noticed give way. In my defence, the natural lay of the road was priority to me, although I did not see the sign. One of those watch it in slow mo as it happens. Damage to me very little, his N/S rear 1/4 panel took a hammering.

Crash Three:

Spun out my folks 3.9ltr V8 Range Rover on a muddy 'B' road in rural southern Spain going to the local petrol station for a bottle of coke for dinner (LOL wish I never). Left my mums dirt track going down to her villa, forgetting about the rain and mud we had that day ... got onto the tarmac with now mud packed 4x4 off-road tyres doing 30kmh coming up to a long corner, started to turn in and the back end stepped out. As the back end continued to slide over the white lines regardless of my counter efforts, the engine stalled (it had been having problems) so I lost power steering half way through the 'manoeuvre'. Anyway the thing ends up at a 90 degree angle to the road as I eventually (bullet time) come out the corner thankfully to no oncoming traffic.. Front two alloys smashed in a 3 foot breeze block wall, with the car ending nose down into the field with the two rear wheels still up on the road where the wall used to be. Damage at the point, not so bad.

Damage the next day when the tow truck got it out and police had been fobbed off etc - totalled. All wheels damaged so new alloys & tyres, windscreen cracked getting it out of field, exhaust ripped off, new bumper, fogs,... oh and fixing the farmers wall.
