Littering while driving = Points

Note the Owner, not the Driver, or even occupants..by this 'logic' maybe we should clamp down on all Pub owners whose patrons participate in vomiting and urinating their way home after a good night out, not to mention fast food places whose styrofoam cartons have for many, many years now been a part of the UK's landscape.

Who comes up with these ideas?
 
I'm all for it except the "driver" responsible bit.

I kicked a friend out of the car when he chucked an empty drinks cup out the window on a dual carriage way. He had a 3 mile walk home.

Littering is disgusting.
 
Not thought this through very well have they?

I think they've lost grip of the principal issue that penalty points are there to deter unsafe/poor vehicle maintenance &/or generally becoming an increased risk to yourself/other road users/pedestrians.

How exactly does littering slot in here?

For the record - I'm all for fining dirty lazy scumbags who drop litter, but penalty points is downright stupid.
 
It is disgusting. I was cycling home from last week and one of my close friends pulled up next to me with a new gf in the car. Had a chat etc, then he pulled off and when he got about 50m away, she threw her empty drinks bottle out of the window. What a skank.

I then cycled up and picked it up and threw it some guys recycle wheelie bin, who then proceeded to come out, ask what I was doing and to not "touch his stuff".

You really can't ****ing win.

This is not "motorist bashing", it is an attempt by Keep Britain Tidy to discourage the casual littering which seems to be considered to be entirely acceptable by many people, including motorists. You only have to pay a brief visit to any of our neighbouring continental European countries to realise that the British are a disgustingly dirty group of people.

As you suggest, it would be a very good idea if pubs, fast food outlets, etc. were to be made more responsible for the litter that they do little to discourage.
 
Not sure about the owner automatically responsible bit. But points for the filthy sods good, good, good. I'm sick of the amount of litter on our streets, getting tougher on it I think is a great idea.

I also think that anyone caught littering (just in general) should automatically get five hours of community service litter picking as well as a fine. Especially smokers who just fling their butts. Disgusting sods.
 
Meh, I'm not a chav who carries around other chavs so this will never apply to me anyway. Littering is not what I do and if you're worried about getting points becasue you litter than tough ****, it's not hard to take something to a bin now.

That said, I did follow an attractive blonde woman in a drop top XK who threw a load of crap out into the hedge a month back. Calling her a filthy 'bike' didn't impress her as I went past at the next oppertunity.
 
is it ok to throw apple cores and banana skins ? (and coconuts? :D)

i've been in a car that was behind another car before, the driver from the car in front threw an empty coke can out the window, bounced on the road a few times then smash, huge crack in the windscreen!



also, some tool was driving down our road, and upon passing the pond, threw a mcdonalds cup into it. our road is a dead end, so when he drive back down, I launched his cup through his window (full of pond water) :o

So throwing a drinks can out window on a motorway is perfectly safe? :rolleyes:
 
Surely there must be existing laws covering littering?

It's not just people in cars but all people just seem to drop litter these days.

My house is on a corner and day and night you get people parking up on the road to the side of my house, having lunch, dinner etc and then just dumping their rubbish into the road.

The right bit of litter on a corner could have a biker on his arse, easy.

I actually have a friend who insists he crashed one of his bikes because he ran over a slice of bread in the road, but he's a known liar.

The bin does not belong to him though, it belongs to the council !


But yeah, I agree people these days only care about themselves and not their surroundings which is a shame because it's only going to get worse as we have clearly seen the past few years.

Having used to ride motorbikes its certainly a pain in the backside swerving to miss lit fag butts flying towards you.
 
I detest littering scum, but these campaigners are completely off their trolley. An on the spot fine is is perfectly adequate, and the fine should be direct to the littering person if she/she is an adult, otherwise the driver should take the responsibility (same as seat belt law).

The rolleyes hurt me bad.

Anyway, how common is it for litterers to throw stuff out of the window on a motorway? Most people of this mindset probably litter down a and b roads where there's no cameras.

I suspect more Bikers get dumped on their arses by badgers who don't know their green cross code. Perhaps we should just cull them all to be on the safe side, and whilst we're at it also ban anything that poses the mildest threat to human life. The end of peanuts is nigh.
