how can the death penalty be more expensive than keeping someone in prison for 20 years ?

im all for the death penalty , in certain situations, where someone is litteraly going to spend the rest of their days in a cell as they are so much danger to the public...

You're killing the offender for taking a life. You're then pretending that taking his life some how gives you the ****ing moral high ground? and makes it okay?

In self defence. It's a completely different situation and you know it. Who the hell said that anyone who kills anyone would get the death penalty?

I'd start with the Wikipedia page on the pros and cons of the death penalty and work from there, to be honest.

The appeals processes, primarily, which costs a lot in it's own right and means that people end up in prison for practically that long anyway.

So may I ask what your opinion would be on the woman killing him while the attack was in progress? She grabs a knife out of the block and stabs him with it for example? A pure heat of the moment fight or flight response to the threat on her life and that of her child.

And its not the actual death penalty itself which costs the money then. It's paying lawyers to argue over it and judges to preside over the appeal.

Same happened a few years ago to a 3 year old girl, only that time it was a guy with a very good job. Last I heard was his lawyers were pleading temporary insanity due to the stress of the job.

I often wonder what happened to him.

Essentially, yes, but you'd struggle to be seen as remotely civilised without those expensive appeals.

It's barbaric to even consider the death penalty. It's not going to suddenly stop murders from occurring, the murder rates in Texas and other states aren't zero because they have the death penalty.

again, nobody ever suggested that it would stop murders or even reduce the rate of them.
 
Yep, lets allow the goverment to murder children and mentally ill people :rolleyes:

State murder is utterly wrong and far more abhorrent and disgusting than any murderers crime!! People supporting it need their heads checked!!
