LittleBigPlanet - Play, Create and Share.

Have you tried making content for any of those games?

It's not easy to create something good, and many people don't stand a chance.

This is an editor that anyone can use.

??? dont understand that statement "an editor anyone can use"

yes - NWN is fairly straightforward to create levels/items and basic scripting for your mod. Morrowind i havent created map content just messed around with custom houses/armour/items etc. The Witcher i havent had time to start with but i'm quite excited about the possibilities :)

But a create your own platformer no i guess that doesnt excite me. (and hey i used to love creating my own Kickstart 2 levels when i was 10 or smt)

I know i should just accept that and let it go - im just really surprised that the majority of folk are excited about it? weird....very weird..

Anyway supposed UK release date for LBP,
That LittleBigPlanet has received a worldwide delay has not gone unnoticed. While some territories are still awaiting news of a new release date, the UK has been lucky in the fact that the title has simply been pushed-back to its originally suggested release date; 31st October 2008. In order to prevent any unwanted discomfort for all parties involved, Electronic Theatre has seen fit to slightly edit the mailshot featured below. The mailshot was received from a source close to Electronic Theatre this morning, and is intended for internal use within UK-based independent retail stores.
Not sure if its true or not still wait for further comformation

Bloody muslims - its not like its in a game that will tarnish their culture...

Id be over the moon if some of the Sikh spiritual teachings were in LBP - hell it would make me buy it to see how theyve interpreted it.

Poor show from a somewhat backwards religion...

ok so what if the Sikh spiritual teachings said music is forbidden? would Sikhs be ok with their teachings mixed in with music?

That's really annoying but I guess its not all bad because I will have Dead Space and FarCry 2 to play in the meantime.

What exactly are the lyrics that could be considered 'offensive'?

The confirmation follows rumours that that Singing Safari level of the game features a song with two expressions found in Islam's central holy text, the Qur'an. Cached pages on the official PlayStation forum claim that the two phrases are (literally translated from the original Arabic): "Every soul shall have the taste of death" and "All that is on earth will perish."

Considering the context of the release - yes. Remember this is a published song thats been available to be downloaded and bought for years.

If there was a major issue that it would have been addressed then not when Sony decide to use it in a game. My parents are Sikh disciples and I know they wouldnt have any issue...

Im sorry but to me its another time when an absolute, blinkered view wasnt needed...

ta for your view, didnt know it was a song that was available for years. maybe the right people didnt know when the song was released, however with lbp being such a big thing, it was therefore spotted i guess. prolly loads of songs with such things in we dont know about, hard to keep track of them all.

ok so where would you draw the line then? going back to my original post, your god says music is forbidden, your gods words are then mixed into music and then put in to a entertainment game to be sold, remember this is god and his words we are talking about. so what if a more serious crossing of Sikh spiritual teachings emerged, what would you do then, actually it doesnt get much more serious then something being forbidden does it. to me i cant accept it just because of the context its in. it boils down to how serious you are about god, their are muslims who are thinking exactly like you, a lot of non muslims are too. thats fine their opinion no problem, to me i cant accept this, god and his words are far more important to me than some game, its as simple as that. so to me its not a blinkered view and it was needed.

sorry if i upset anyone

and apologies for the delay guys

lol I knew it would happen, from the Sun

Video game pulped over Koran ditty

By DEREK BROWN

SONY have had to recall and dump millions of copies of a new PS3 computer game because Muslims have taken offence to it.

The ultra-cute platform game LittleBigPlanet was due to hit shop shelves next Friday but hardline Muslims are furious at one of the songs.

A track recorded by Grammy award winner Toumani Diabate – himself a Muslim – quotes two lines from the Koran.

The words used by Mali-born Diabate translate as “Every soul shall have a taste of death” and “All that is on Earth will perish.”

Hardliners who have seen review copies of the game say mixing words from the Koran with music is deeply offensive and demanded Sony take action. The furore will potentially cost the firm millions of pounds.

Cute ... but LittleBigPlanet song is offfensive, say Muslims

And it comes despite the song being on general release since 2006.

LittleBigPlanet is Sony’s most significant PS3 game to date. They hope it will help them sell thousands of consoles in the run up to Christmas. Millions of gamers have pre-ordered it and the company is adopting its cute main character Sackboy as its mascot.

Copies of the game will be returned from warehouses around the world.

It will now be released sometime in November. One Muslim game player said on an Internet messageboard: “We consider the mixing of music and words from our Holy Koran deeply offending.” In an appeal to Sony he added: “We hope you would remove that track from the game immediately.”

A spokesman for Sony said last night: “During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Koran.

“We have taken immediate action to rectify this and sincerely apologise for any offence this may have caused.”

They even had sackboys on Jonathan Ross last night

I think theres no reason for you to apologise since if it is offensive then its something that needed to be considered and dealt with.

I think Ill have difficulty answering your question since my answer can only be finite and no doubt there would be circumstances that I might not consider that would be offensive to my religion. All I can say is to date the most public reaction in recent years was a play written where rape was committed in a Gurdwara, which personally I dont find offensive (the topic not the act) but can completely understand why other Sikhs (and other religions) could, because its desecrating a holy place.

Its my understanding though (Ive checked with my sister) that actually music itself (or any form of entertainment) is actually frowned upon by Islam in stricter interpretations since its a distraction from Allah and really Muslims shouldnt really partake anyway. So the question really is, why should it matter if there is excerpts from the Koran mixed in music when you shouldnt be playing the game or listening to music in the first place? I think its this type of hypocrisy that make such a situation for non-Muslims so hard to swallow...

Im sure its not the worst thing for a Muslim to commit but I know Muslims friends of mine have made me aware of that interpretation...

EDIT: Apologises for the tangent - I thought muggs post warranted a reply within the confines of the thread and its point...
