Liverpool FC officially for sale

Because 8 x £2,000,000 = £10,000,000
1 x £10,000,000 = £10,000,000

He could choose to spend what money he has spent, on fewer, higher quality players than the raft of complete crap he has done.
Its not as if his policy has resulted in a drastic improving in quality of the squad, is it?
If he signed fewer, higher quality players he could still of still traded up, but with a marked increase in quality each and every time.

For a start this has no relevance to your original point which I argued with. Whether you agree with the way in which he's chose to go about building the squad is 1 thing, saying that he's spent 'x' in total therefore the squad should be worth 'x' is a completely different arguement.

As for what you're now saying; I've spoke about this before. The squad he inherited from Houllier was worthless with the exception of Gerrard and Owen (who was worth 1/3 of his true value due to his contract), therefore to raise the money to buy 1 higher quaility player he would have had to sell several squad players. As I've said before (in the Benitez thread), ever since Benitez has been with Liverpool the choice has been whether to sacrafise the depth of our squad for less higher quality players or sacrafise the quality of player for depth of squad. In the first few years he went down the route of having a bigger squad, buying cheaper/unproven players etc and it we had mixed fortunes from it and in the last 2 seasons he's gone the other way and we've sacrafised the depth of our squad in order to buy those higher quality players and again it's had mixed fortunes (last season compared to this).

edit: anyway, this debate should be in the Benitez thread not this one.

Baz, Benitez's other choice, was to go out and find youngsters who could come through, and very very cheap deals on great players, both are possible, he's done neither.

Thing is, Chelsea, Real, Barca, Arsenal, Utd, City, both Milans and every other top club in the world DOES have youth players come through, and all those clubs get in good value players also. Ireland, Fabregas, Song(if you rate him), Sturridge, Terry, Neville, Giggs, Scholes, Macheda, VDS was a GREAT value buy, Owen was a free for Utd, Valencia wasn't half bad value at all, infact far better value than anything Benitez has managed in terms of wingers.

Johnson was NOT good value, Mascherano was not cheap, neither was Torres, the only really cheap player I can think of thats been half decent was the greek defender this season, when the board finally said, no more, to Benitez.

There is NO club on the planet that can spend 20million on every single squad member, every top club relies on a mix of some expensive players, some existing, some youth, some great deals and even some loans.

People forget that these days players seem to get payments, like Barry thought he was entitled to, for leaving clubs when they haven't asked to leave.

Does anyone take into account the signing on bonus's, the "loyalty" payments when they leave? Because Benitez's tends to force players out rather than them ask to leave, what if thats 5 players a season, all getting 2-4mil payouts for being asked to leave, and all the 5 new players getting 2-4mil for joining?

HIgher turnover has a large effect on transfer budgets, it only doesn't have an effect, when it suits someones argument.

You also have the problem of youth vs bringing in established ok players, Lucas is probably on a decent amount more money than a Denilson or a Song, because a transfer tends to bump wages up a lot as theres competition for signatures, younger players at the same club for years tend to be on lower wages than someone brought in at a later date when you have to persaude them to sign for you rather than another club. Again that add's up to more money spent on wages and less for transfers.

I also can't imagine what the insurance they have to pay for players is, considering almost every Liverpool players house gets ripped off, insurance and security must cost Liverpool more than any other club by millions :p

Total Buys 209,425,000

Total Sales 147,130,000

so hes spent roughly £60 million in 6 years, i dont think thats a lot.

He's spent 209, 425, 000 ;)

He's just recouped 157,130,000 :)

I like Rafa. I'll actually be sad if he does leave Liverpool.

I'd love to see them give the job to old Roy, Don't know if anyone else would agree but I really do rate Roy! Best English manager to not manage England imo.

Houlliers squad won the Champions league, Benitez squad didnt

His squad now apart from the 3 players mentioned who are any quality is essentially worthless as well.
Johnson, Lucas (the next big name in Brazilian football no less), Kuyt, Reira, N'gog, Babel (the next big name in dutch football) Carragher, etc etc.
All worth no more than a token transfer fee or substantially less than than they cost.
None of them have come on, or developed or made a name for themselves, or were substantially over priced to start with.

Within reason; Garcia (along with Carra) was probably our most important player in our CL run though. You're also not taking into account the massive improvement in Finnand (who barely played) and Carra under Benitez, Alonso's role and Gerrard's shift in position under Benitez.

In short we won the CL with an incredibly poor squad.

This is utter nonsense. Of the players Benitez inherited, only 3 were sold for more than £4m and Owen being the most at ~£9m. If you're seriously suggesting our squad is in that bad shape then you're deluded.

Obviously some players will be worth less than we signed them for; Johnson as he was too expensive to begin with (although he wouldn't go for a great deal less if we did sell him (Chelsea and City matched our bid)) and then Babel and Riera (again it wouldnt be a big loss (Birmingham bid ~£10m for Babel in January and Riera only cost ~£7m to begin with).

You've then got the likes of Skrtel, Agger, Benayoun, Kuyt, Maxi and Lucas who'd all fetch decent fees and for more than they cost, and then the likes of Masch, Torres and Reina who'd fetch big money.

and with his new deal he has just signed I cant see anyone wanting to buy Reina any time soon (great keeper undoubtedly, but given his age and what he would cost to buy.....cant see it happening)

Depending on next year's league performance / end position Torres may go for 11/12...and that might signal others leaving but thats more dependant on other signings.

Personally think a buyer has to be found before the end of this summer to hold onto Torres long term (can anyone see him staying for two years of Europa league?)

If Benitez goes (or should that be when) that could well change the above

According to tonights reports the Yanks have an offer of a further 6month extention with RBS as well as the offer with Barclays.

We've been for sale for 3 years, the only thing new is that we've got a Chelsea supporter as Chairman so you to wouldn't be out of place :p
