He exclusively told Liverpoolfc.tv: "This is the biggest job in club football and I'm honoured to be taking on the role of manager of Britain's most successful football club. I look forward to meeting the players and the supporters and getting down to work at Melwood."

I know a lot of Liverpool fans wanted Kenny, and others think we can do a lot better, but I am happy with Roy's appointment. A good English manager who can hopefully stop the rot from last season. Maybe he can even get Babel to play well, who knows.

I remember his time at Blackburn and when he started we were still a big club. Loads of poor signing followed before eventual relegation. The highlights being strikers Kevin Davies (£7.5m, 1 goal) and Martin Dahlin (£5m, 4 goals).

He might bring some stability to Liverpool but I can see it going **** up if he's given money to spend and them ending up in similar positions to Leeds or Newcastle.

Yeah..

You realise he's had quite a bit of experience of management since then, right?

Shame, I wanted to see him take Fulham on, hopefully to the detriment of Liverpool themselves.

I really like "Woy"

Hopefully might be able to do something with Liverpool, they're in a bit of a state right now.

I forgot Al-Fayed recently sold up his Harrods stake too. You'd have though the security of an owner who's just come into the money, and has been happy to bankroll the club before, would outweigh the financial restraints at the likes of Liverpool. Big gamble for him, really.

:(

Problem is, this has probably been Hodgson's dream since starting out in Management, to be one of the biggest names in England, Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool. Now he's got that chance. Hope him the best, but just a shame it'll cost us :(

Good lord.

I think he's selling Fulham soon too and retiring to an island to live out his days

He'd had a lot of experience before as he joined us from Inter and hasn't had to deal with big name players/expectations in the last 10 years. A mid table finish and cup run was a very good acheivement at Fulham. Liverpool fans (unrealistically in my view) expect to challenge for the title or at the very least comfortably qualify for the champions league.

Yet he's one of the top managers around. Liverpool in it's current state probably wouldn't have even tempted one of the so called big names, regardless.

Hodgson NEEDS time, which unfortunately, Liverpool fans wont give him. As soon as there's a tiny slip up there will be cries of that he is a bad manager, wrong appointment. At least he has stepped up to the challenge, putting his reputation on the line.

Hodgson going will probably allow the likes of Schwarzer, Hangeland, Dempsey and maybe Zamora or someone to leave now :( just hoping we keep Dempsey/Zamora, i'm hoping loyalty comes in for both, as Zamora has turned down two clubs now. Hodgson gone won't attract as many of the bigger names we could have got, ah well.
