Liverpool officially announce Hodgson to take charge

Perhaps Liverpool have hired him for his track record in the Europa League!?!? :D
clearly their focus for next season then! :p

Yet he's one of the top managers around. Liverpool in it's current state probably wouldn't have even tempted one of the so called big names, regardless.

I'd not call him a top manager but tend to agree that Liverpool couldn't have got anyone much better with the current state of their finances.

Hodgson NEEDS time, which unfortunately, Liverpool fans wont give him. As soon as there's a tiny slip up there will be cries of that he is a bad manager, wrong appointment. At least he has stepped up to the challenge, putting his reputation on the line.

Imo the fans will be calling for his head by Christmas and he'll be sacked by next summer, unless they're already in the relegation zone by Christmas. Another year without the champions league and Liverpool will be in serious trouble.

I think most of us Liverpool fans have realistic expectations by now.

6th place is my expectation, 4th is the best I'd dare dream of given how city have been going.

I still think our core team is good enough for 4th if Torres and Gerrard can stay fit.

It'd shock me if Liverpool reclaimed 4th next season, they're quite a way behind Spurs and City now (with City's spending this summer)

Hodgson going will probably allow the likes of Schwarzer, Hangeland, Dempsey and maybe Zamora or someone to leave now :( just hoping we keep Dempsey/Zamora, i'm hoping loyalty comes in for both, as Zamora has turned down two clubs now. Hodgson gone won't attract as many of the bigger names we could have got, ah well.

I will happily give any new manager of Liverpool time...however at 62 years of age I wouldnt say he has a whole lot of time left himself :) (probably another reason why he has taken the job)

Yeah, but I mean, he'll get 10 games in, maybe have a bad result and there will be people calling for the sack. It took Fulham about a season to get used to his training methods. If you read up on the players talking about his training scheme, they all hated it at first as it's the same drills over and over, but it obviously works. He was probably meant to take two years, but three is probably putting in a season to settle, sort his team.

Massively disappointed with this appointment but he'll get my full support. Realistically, top 10 and a cup run is the best I can hope for given the squad he'll have to work with after a few sales.

I was going to post saying something along the lines of "I doubt Liverpool's big stars will put up with Woy's favoured style of play". I then I remembered that it can't be worse than under Benitez. :D

Feel sorry for all the Fulham fans out there. Fulham were punching well above their weight under Woy. Things are going to be tough next season for them.

Thing is, he can make players better, and the overall team better. Look at Fulham, we have probably two standout players really. At least he has a better basis to work for, he doesn't have to go out and buy 5-7 players like he did with Fulham.

By no means will he transform them within a day, but over the course of the season I can see Liverpool playing much nicer football, IF the players adapts to his style. Can't see Torres liking it too much :p

Yeah there will be (as there usually is at many teams when a new manager is appointed)...but I wont be one of them.

Of course. It was like that when we appointed him. If you have a read of the message board, people saying he's a money grabber, and they are going to boo him on his return. It's hilarious really.

They are football fans! Many football fans are very retarded

I'm completely underwhelmed by this appointment but he'll get my full support now that he is manager.

While people may have wanted a bigger name I don't realistically see who else we could have gotten given the state we are in, he's a decent enough manager.

Doesnt matter who we appoint. With the lack of funds, the yanks in charge + a chairman with a conflict of interests, we wont be competitive anyway.

Liverpool fans do make me laugh as much as Utd fans....look at the state of your club financially and tell me who the hell would want to take over...getting Roy Hodgson is a very good coup for Liverpool...the fact that hes taken on what seems to be an impossible job because if your spiralling debts plus hardly any money to spend in the trmsfer market...id count your lucky stars you got a decent manager in Roy.

You werent going to get a Mourinho or Fergie type of manager because they want shedloads of money available to spend in the transfer market.

Good luck to Roy...hes definitely going to need it with the fickle fans of Liverpool.
