Indeed, I have Dali Opticon speakers and an XTZ 12” sub, 700W RMS, goes pretty deep, really well made and can be had for £5-600

If I was spending £1800 I’d want a much more powerful SVS or actually probably just get two XTZ, two subs is always better than one

That m&k.is even more expensive than my sub and for movies mine would totally destroy that m&k.

And makes going dual very expensive.

Depends on the room size, whether you want real wood veneer or plain black, and usage. If it's a tiny room for two channel no point getting a 18" ported sub with several kw amp

£1800 gives you quite a few choices

Off the top of my head. The 10" monoprice at £450 will be plenty for most people.

I went for the monoprice THX ultra subs. £1300 each on auction site. They're huge though and really need big room and for movies they're incredible.

Would you go m&k speakers plus another sub or monitor speakers plus another sub?

Speakers are a personal thing also depends on your AVR.

I haven't owned those two brands

In the end I stayed with what i had and bought an SVS PB3000. Took your point on the need for a good sub. Ported subs were just a little bit too big for the space I have.

Sub comes on Monday, will stick with 3.1.2 for a bit and i've got some surrounds i can add if i feel i need 5.1.2

The svs pb3000 is a ported box sub, unless you mean you went for the sb3000m?

I didn’t have one, was hoping I could keep my living room as clean as possible but realise now it’s essential.

Setup below. I’m getting an amp now and then may add surrounds in tbe future.

Currently have

TV - lg 83 OLED

Amp - Denon AVR-X2200W (from old setup)

Fronts - Monitor Audio SILVER 300 (7G) Gloss Black

Centre - Monitor Audio SILVER C250 (7G) Gloss Black

Atmos - Audio SILVER AMS (7G) Gloss Black

Monoprice are best value for money and made from the same designer as Arendal and likely similat factory as I own both.

Arendal = better fit, finish and DSP on board which is useless as everyone should use a miniDSP2x4HD+.
Monoprice = best output per £ for high quality sound BUT they are huge and ugly.

Dedicated room, I went for 2x Monoprices dual 15s. can't go 16 as I'd have to downsize from 180 inch screen.

they pressurise and fill up a 8.5X5M room pretty nicely. bigger than most people's home cinema rooms in UK.


SVS subs are good but they fall off a cliff for infrasonics in the 10-25hz range. Monoprice and arendal play very well down to 10hz. So you will miss out on those really rare but really impactful infrasonics which the SVS will be useless on.
However SVS has really good output in mid bass punch.

Monitor Audio SILVER 300. Set no lower than small 50hz
- Monitor Audio SILVER C250 . Set no lower than small 80hz

Went off the SVS recommended settings. 60 hz on left, centre and right. 80 hz on atmos and 50 hz on sub.

What would you recommend?
