I know the situations are different... mine can't be helped whereas the guy with the high voice could have been... but seeing the way the host reacted when the guy started talking.

I've been there so many times and it's horrible. Even when you try and tell people what the problem is, you can't hear yourself speak over them laughing.

Anyway, to stop this thread going OT, I'll end this post by saying that I've learnt to ignore people who laugh at my speech. Firstly, I'll see whether they apologise or let me explain... if not I'll either ignore them completely or start laughing at them.

I worked in a pub for a year which really helped, but when I came across an 'awkward' customer, I'd just ask them if they had a problem.
