Local prison riot?

tbh... just chuck a bunch of CS gas in there then hose them all down with a water cannon - unfortunately we're a bit too PC to do it over here

The thing many people don't realise is that if you treat people like animals they will behave like animals and someone has to look after them as I'm sure any prison staff here will agree.

Many incidents of assault, drug abuse and sexual abuse go unreported and a chum of mine who worked at HMP Durham tells some rather disturbing tales of what goes on.

POA say that because of a shortage of spaces, Cat B inmates are shipped in which is a source of the trouble due to it being a cause of gang culture, drugs and violence.

im glad the POA have used this for publicity of the issues of what goes on in prisons, at the moment we are facing staffing cuts and efficiency savings with a bursting population, we will see more riots over the summer, the general public really dont have a scooby what goes on in prison and how easy it really is, the modern day prison officer is powerless, as soon as prisoners get lawyered up and quite human rights we cant take anything away from them, its a disgrace.

As a prison officer and POA official we need to get the message out to all just so they realise how much tax payers money the prison service spend on giving prisoners an easy ride, I mean paying prisoners £12 a week to work in the kitchens and other such places, why TF do we pay them they should be doing labour for no payment cos they have committed crimes

A whole bunch of them were drunk on hooch apparently, that with the overcrowding and rising heat seemed to have caused it.

Privelidges and overcrowding in prisons, who gives a *expletive*! It was there choice wether or not to commit a crime which leads to prison! Cram them all in I say and take away their rights!

1st and 2nd time offenders i'd give a easier time in prison but repeat offender let them have a pretty hard time in prison, the idea is to make prison unattractive.

But conversely you may be giving them the impression that doing work leads to a pay packet and other rewards (or at least not loss of privileges) which is much more useful at the point of their re-integration into society. I just can't get behind the idea that we lock people up in prison and never allow that they may have reformed so they should never get out - it isn't possible to excuse all crimes as simple mistakes but in some cases I can't help but think "there but for the grace of god..." sort of thing and I don't even believe in a deity.
