Not many updates for the PC itself.... but I've since moved house and have a PC room now a fair bit bigger. So away from the IKEA MALM desk and onto something nicer, more spacious and fresher. And a new monitor.

WARNING - pic heavy.

Originally I was going down the IKEA Alex drawer + kitchen worktop idea. This took on a whole life of it's own and I ended up building a kitchen instead..... enjoy, comments / criticism welcome etc, happy for your thoughts and suggestions as still work in progress. Yes there's a fridge in one of the cabinets too. And the blinds are temp, new made to measure ones not here yet.

Very clean, very nice. What is the depth of the worktop? What are you using that second screen to the left for?

Thanks mate, still work in progress. Worktops seem to come in a pretty standard depth of 600mm. So not as deep as the IKEA Malm I had, but with wall mounted monitors etc, 600mm is more than enough.

Second screen is a 27" 1440p Dell, I previously used 2x of these for the main rig but got the 34" superwide. Figured mount up the old Dell and hide the cables, it's hooked up to the CCTV for the house, and Display Port and HDMI connections under the desk for plugging another PC in there if need be.

Happy to inspire!

Great setup, what cabinets did you go for?

The cabinets are just from the Wickes range, basic white wood ones that were on sale - then I picked gloss grey doors for them separately, worked out cheaper that way

Awesome. Just in the process of converting my garage. Which carpet is that?

It's a grey carpet called "Easy Living Plus Moonraker" fully synthetic so you can spill stuff on it, clean it with bleach or anything and no issues!

Out of interest, how did you hide the monitor cables?

It's a new build house, so cavity walls, just make a hole for the cables behind the screen, another further down behind the desk, fitted a brush plate for neatness, and fed the cables down. There's a power socket then added behind the monitor itself, since your not meant to run power cables in the wall. All the TV's and other screens around the house have had the same treatment, I think it looks so much neater.

Interested in the cabinets without a kickboard? got a link?

Most kitchen units come with all that stuff separately. So in this case, the Wickes units come with feet that I simply didn't fit. And as a result didn't need to order the kickboard. That makes it, with the worktop, about an inch higher than a standard IKEA desk. With the feet and kickboard in place it would obviously be far too high.

Having fitted a few kitchens I don't know why that option didn't click in my head:D:rolleyes: how do the doors fair on the carpet?

So much desk space!! Wish i had this much, there would be so much i could do with it. This is screaming for a Samsung G9 monitor, it would fit so well into the space and wall you have.

@shaank dopey question but how did you fix the kitchen work top to the cabinets? Is it just freestanding or....?

I’m thinking of getting an ~85cm deep worktop and using it for a desk and just using table legs, but your solution looks so good I’m temped to copy you!!

Edit - also, do the doors still open if you don't put on the feet?
