i have been restoring my computer after a freak boot disk failure on the SSD. i am now running windows off a different drive and want to go salvage stuff off the SSD. i tried chkdsk with command prompt but i get the "access denied - do not have sufficient privileges" message. theres a LOT of important documents on there i need access to. in short,

HOW DO I FIX A RAW DRIVE WITHOUT LOSING EVERYTHING ON IT?

thanks.

Boot from a different drive and then Hot Plug the dodgy drive once inside Windows. First look inside your motherboard BIOS to see if the SATA ports have Hot Plug option.

Should be in the SATA ports options in the BIOS. It's really not dangerous, just that you plug in power and then data to the drive while the PC is on AKA "hot" (after enabling Hot Plug for the SATA port you use). It then reads the drive like an external drive and can bypass any boot issues affecting it. Saved my dad's data when his drive failed and would neither boot as boot drive nor be readable as non-boot drive if plugged in before system was powered on.

If you'd rather make a Linux boot disc that was also a good suggestion. Just another option.
